The automaker is developing an upgraded version of the GR010 Hybrid featuring a more aggressive aero package as it prepares to take on Ferrari’s dominance at Le Mans in 2026.

A new teaser for the Toyota GR010 Hybrid has been released.

The updated hypercar is scheduled for testing at the Circuit Paul Ricard next week.

Toyota aims to reclaim victories in the WEC following Ferrari's recent success.

Toyota is preparing for a comeback at Le Mans with an enhanced GR010 Hybrid, expected to debut in 2026. The endurance racing vehicle has been teased online, showcasing a more aggressive aerodynamic design that gives it a distinctly intimidating appearance.

From 2018 to 2022, Toyota was a dominant force in endurance racing, securing five consecutive Le Mans wins. However, this run ended with Ferrari's victories in 2023, 2024, and 2025. Eager to respond, Toyota Gazoo Racing is readying its new racing machine to stay competitive in an increasingly crowded arena.

Shaping the Future

The dark teaser highlights a significantly aggressive redesign. At the front, the updated GR010 features horizontally arranged LED headlights that reflect the hammerhead aesthetic of Toyota’s road cars, complete with integrated vents. At the rear, there’s a full-width LED strip reminiscent of the GR Yaris, along with a revamped wing.

The Toyota GR010 Hybrid first made its appearance in 2021 as a successor to the TS050 Hybrid. Like all WEC Hypercars, it is homologated under stringent regulations, allowing only five “joker” development opportunities throughout its lifecycle. Some of these have already been utilized in a 2023 update, with the remaining likely to be implemented in this new redesign.

It remains uncertain whether the hybrid system will undergo any modifications. The current configuration combines a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 with a front-mounted electric motor, generating a total of 671 hp (500 kW / 680 PS), as per series regulations.

Toyota Gazoo Racing confirmed its work on an upgraded racing vehicle during the challenging 6 Hours of Fuji for the Gazoo Racing team. As reported by Autohebdo, Kazuki Nakajima, Vice-chairman of Toyota Gazoo Racing Europe, stated:

“We are planning to introduce an evolution for next year. At the beginning of October, we will conduct the first test of the car equipped with this new aerodynamic package. As a team, we are collaborating and continuing our preparations with a strong intent to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans next year. To be honest, we have been considering this development since last year, and we even contemplated launching it this year, but due to the change in the homologation wind tunnel location, we chose to postpone it for a year.”

In the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC), Toyota’s rivals include Ferrari, Aston Martin, and Peugeot in the LMH category, with BMW, Porsche, Cadillac, and Alpine in the LMDh category. Starting in 2027, Genesis, McLaren, and Ford will also join the grid with LMDh entries.
