Audi has traditionally adopted a conservative stance with the A8 sedan, but this approach may shift with the next generation.

The upcoming A8 could utilize Audi’s Premium Platform Combustion architecture, taking cues from the sleek, contemporary lines of the Concept C. Previous plans for an A8 EV were reportedly derived from the Grandsphere concept.

The future of the Audi A8 is still unclear, but the discussion around it is ongoing. Although the current generation, which has been in production since 2017, has aged well, it has not kept up with the technological advancements seen in the BMW 7-Series and Mercedes-Benz S-Class, both of which are poised for a refresh.

Audi has conceded that it has yet to determine the long-term fate of the A8, which leaves open the possibility of discontinuation. Original plans to replace it with two all-electric flagship models—a low-profile sedan and a sporty crossover—have been put on hold following Porsche’s decision to indefinitely delay its related K1 project.

One option being considered by Audi officials is to create a sedan based on a more recent internal combustion platform. If Audi opts for this route, the vehicle would require a complete redesign to match the brand's next generation of models.

In visualizing a new A8, digital artist Nikita Chuyko from Kolesa took a unique approach. Rather than being inspired by the striking Grandsphere concept from 2021, which was initially meant to provide a first look at the next-gen A8, he developed this rendering based on the more recent Audi Concept C, introduced as a preview for the upcoming TT.

The front end of the proposed design closely resembles that of the Concept C, featuring the same slender LED headlights and an unusual rectangular gloss black front grille. Additionally, similar to the Concept C, vertical air vents are present on either side of the bumper, though they are slightly narrower in this envisioned A8. The artist has also incorporated diagonal lines in the bumper for added visual interest.

Significant modifications have also been made to the sides of this future A8, including new flush door handles and a pronounced line running along both doors. At the rear, like the Concept C, it includes a pair of simple horizontal taillights and a large diffuser—elements that might seem somewhat out of place on a luxury sedan unless it is an S or RS performance variant.

Recent reports suggest that if the A8 does receive a successor, it may share the same Premium Platform Combustion (PPC) architecture as the upcoming Q7 and Q9. If it does continue to evolve, we hope Audi’s designers will create a more cohesive look than the car depicted in these images. What do you think? Would you be interested in a potential new A8 resembling this design?
