The hybrid powertrain of the racing beast employs a Frankenstein twin-turbo V8 constructed from two WRC engines.

Genesis has unveiled a full-scale model of its racing hypercar featuring the final livery.

The Genesis Magma Racing design integrates shades of orange and red with Korean-inspired graphics.

The GMR-001 marks the manufacturer’s inaugural LMDh entry for the WEC and IMSA championships.

While the bold Genesis X Gran Equator Concept may be stealing the spotlight, it isn't the only attraction at Genesis' display during the 2025 New York Auto Show. A life-sized model of the GMR-001 hypercar, prepared to compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2026, also shares the attention.

Though the GMR-001 has previously been showcased in renderings and as a scale model, attendees at the New York show are the first to view the full-sized endurance racer. It is presented in its definitive Genesis Magma Racing livery.

The exterior features the distinct Magma Orange paint, which transitions into a rich Dark Red at the rear. The livery showcases geometric graphics influenced by Korean heritage, including design elements that represent the word “Magma” in Hangeul characters.

Despite being designed solely for track use with a strong emphasis on aerodynamics, the low-slung GMR-001 incorporates styling cues from Genesis production vehicles, such as the “Two-Line lighting” signature and the “sweeping Parabolic Line” along its profile.

Genesis has not yet disclosed complete technical specifications, but the GMR-001 will be driven by a hybrid rear-wheel-drive configuration limited to 671 horsepower (500 kW / 680 PS). The combustion engine consists of a twin-turbo V8, created by combining two 1.6-liter four-cylinder units derived from WRC competition.

The powertrain and chassis were developed with assistance from Oreca Motorsport specifically for endurance racing. However, some of this technology may be incorporated into future production models, likely from the performance lineup branded as Magma.

Additionally, Genesis has introduced the GMR Race Suits that will be worn by drivers, including three-time 24 Hours of Le Mans winner André Lotterer and four-time 12 Hours of Sebring champion Luis “Pipo” Derani.

The GMR-001 is set to compete under the Genesis Magma Racing name in both the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) and the IMSA SportsCar Championship starting in 2027. So far, confirmed LMDh entries include Genesis, Ford, Alpine, BMW, Cadillac, and Porsche, while Aston Martin, Ferrari, Peugeot, and Toyota are opting to continue in the LMH category.
