The Solterra now produces 338 hp from its all-wheel-drive configuration and can achieve over 285 miles on a single charge.

Subaru has rolled out several significant enhancements for the 2026 model year of the Solterra.

This fully electric crossover features new design elements and upgraded technology within the interior.

It also boasts a more powerful AWD system and an updated battery, providing 285 miles of driving range.

The rapidly evolving electric crossover market sees Subaru striving to remain competitive. The 2026 Subaru Solterra was revealed at the New York Auto Show, showcasing improvements in style, technology, and mechanical performance compared to its predecessor. This extensive redesign helps the EV stand out from the recently refreshed Toyota bZ4X twin, while also boosting its competitiveness in driving range and available features.

Starting with the exterior, the updated front end presents a cleaner, more unified appearance with sleeker LED headlights and a more subdued grille. It now closely resembles the larger Subaru Trailseeker. The previously controversial plastic cladding has been painted body color, creating a notable enhancement in the overall look. Subaru also mentions that two-tone color options will be available, although they have not yet appeared in any official photos.

The profile and rear design largely mirror that of the previous model, which has been in circulation since 2022. The only changes include new wheel designs available in 18 and 20 inches, along with updated Subaru lettering on the tailgate.

Inside, the standout feature is the new 14-inch infotainment touchscreen equipped with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality. The EV also comes with standard wireless chargers, USB-C ports, and a comprehensive suite of advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) from Subaru's EyeSight package.

      Range, Charging, and Battery Enhancements

While the styling will be the first aspect that potential customers notice, the mechanical improvements are even more vital for the EV's competitiveness. The 2026 Subaru Solterra now offers a range of over 285 miles (459 km) on a single charge, representing a 25% increase from its predecessor. This enhancement is due to the new 74.7 kWh lithium-ion battery pack located beneath the floor.

According to Subaru, the battery can charge from 10% to 80% in less than 35 minutes when connected to a 150 kW charger. Additionally, the Solterra features a battery preconditioning system for more efficient charging in colder temperatures and includes a North American Charging Standard (NACS) port, allowing access to Tesla's Supercharger network.

      Increased Power and Enhanced Dynamics

The standard AWD powertrain of the 2026 Subaru Solterra has seen substantial upgrades, with a stronger rear electric motor and improved power distribution. The total output now stands at 338 hp (252 kW / 343 PS), marking a significant increase from the 215 hp (160 kW / 218 PS) of the previous model. This added power enables the crossover to go from 0-60 mph (0-97 km/h) in under 5 seconds.

Drivers will benefit from the X-Mode system (including Snow/Dirt and Deep Snow/Mud driving modes), Grip Control, and Downhill Assist Control, alongside a ground clearance of 8.3 inches (211 mm). In addition to the new AWD features, Subaru’s engineers have also refined the suspension and electric power steering for improved handling.

The 2026 Subaru Solterra is set to arrive at US dealerships later this year, with pricing and detailed specifications to be revealed closer to the official launch.
