Can AMG Bring Some Thrill to the Lackluster GLC EV? | Carscoops

Wide-track chassis, retractable rear spoiler, and two-tone bucket seats distinguish AMG's interpretation of the new electric GLC.

Mercedes-AMG is in the process of developing a performance variant of the new GLC EQ.

Our spy team managed to capture images of both the exterior and interior of the compact AMG-tuned SUV.

There are rumors suggesting that the electric vehicle could produce nearly 940 hp with the help of three motors.

At the Munich Auto Show in September, Mercedes faced off against BMW, with both automakers unveiling compact electric SUVs. In our opinion, the Bavarian iX3 appeared more dynamic, despite the GLC's impressive new grille.

Nonetheless, AMG is crafting its own version of the GLC that may provide the visual appeal that the standard model lacks.

Our spy photography team captured a prototype of the Mercedes-AMG GLC EQ undergoing testing in Germany, providing insights into some significant features, both inside and out.

Notably, the AMG version has a wider track compared to the regular model, with large forged alloy wheels positioned at the edges of the bodywork to enhance handling and aesthetics.

What Visual Changes Will AMG Introduce?

To help secure those wheels to the road, another AMG-specific feature is a retractable rear spoiler positioned at the top of the rear hatch. It is likely that the production version will include a rear diffuser in conjunction with the spoiler, though this prototype does not show one.

Additionally, the AMG grille is not fully visible on this test vehicle. We anticipate it will be large, likely retaining the basic design of the new full-height grille that debuted on the standard GLC EQ in September and was subsequently seen on the stunning Vision Iconic GT concept unveiled shortly after.

We are still eager to discover what AMG plans for the centerpiece of the grille and whether it will feature the brand's signature vertical vanes.

      Sporty Interior, Supercar-Level Power

Less is uncertain about the interior, as spy photographers managed to get close to a parked GLC and captured images showing heavily bolstered black and red bucket seats. We expect the door panels and center armrest to be outfitted to match by the time production starts, likely in mid-2026.

Of course, an AMG model wouldn’t be complete without a significant boost in horsepower. So far, Mercedes has introduced only one powertrain for the GLC, a dual-motor setup producing 483 hp (490 PS / 360 kW) for the GLC 400 4Matic, which draws power from a 94 kWh battery providing up to 443 miles (713 km) of WLTP range.

While that’s impressive, the AMG version is expected to surpass it significantly if, as rumored, it features three Yasa axial flux motors delivering as much as 938 hp (952 PS / 700 kW).
