The 718 Boxster and Cayman are set to be discontinued later this month, while the current internal combustion engine Macan will cease production in mid-2026.

Porsche's operating profit saw a staggering 99% decrease during the first three quarters of the year, with a 6% drop in deliveries and sales revenue, largely due to rising global tariffs. Although the gas-powered Macan will be phased out next year, a new model is on the horizon.

In the recent third-quarter earnings call, Porsche announced that the current internal combustion Macan’s production will continue "well into 2026" and that sales will continue throughout the year, and in certain markets, possibly into 2027 depending on final stock levels.

Finance and IT Board Member Dr. Jochen Breckner mentioned that while the exact end date for production has not been confirmed, it is anticipated to happen "around the middle of 2026." He assured that customers would receive their vehicles throughout 2026, and some even in 2027.

It seems the company plans to stockpile vehicles in key markets to bridge the gap until the redesigned crossover launches. The second-generation Macan will feature both conventional and plug-in hybrid powertrains, in addition to the existing Macan Electric.

Previous reports indicate that the new model will be based on the Audi Q5, with spy photographers capturing early development prototypes being tested by Porsche earlier this year.

This strategy aligns with the brand's decision to slow down their electric vehicle initiative as part of a product realignment that will include "additional models featuring combustion and plug-in hybrid powertrains."

Breckner highlighted that starting in 2028, a more balanced offering of drivetrains will further bolster the brand's market position and support sustainable growth. This initiative will include internal combustion engine versions of the redesigned 718 as well as the next Macan, informally referred to as the "B-SUV." Furthermore, Porsche's flagship SUV will shift away from electric power to instead offer gasoline and plug-in hybrid options.

Regarding the 718, the production of the current Boxster and Cayman models is nearing its end, with production concluding later this month. Breckner stated, “we are producing the very last cars these days.” Nonetheless, the automaker will maintain a small inventory to bridge the gap until the arrival of the next-generation sports car.

Porsche has experienced a challenging year financially, despite achieving record deliveries in the United States. In the first nine months, the company's operating profit fell drastically from over €4 billion ($4.6 billion) in 2025 to only €40 million ($46 million) this year.

The company attributes this significant decline to various factors, including their product realignment strategy, tough market conditions in China, and “one-off effects” related to battery activities. Tariffs have also impacted finances, costing the company approximately €700 million ($814 million) this year alone.

To mitigate the effects of tariffs, Porsche plans to "further strengthen" their pricing strategy throughout 2025 and 2026 and has increased prices to maintain acceptable margins.

Despite the concerning financial figures, Porsche noted an increase in automotive net cash flow from €1.24 billion ($1.44 billion) to €1.34 billion ($1.56 billion), showcasing the resilience of its operations and indicating robust performance even in difficult circumstances.
