It’s Confirmed: Acura Discontinues ZDX After Substantial Discounts Prove Ineffective | Carscoops

Acura's initial electric vehicle didn't perform as the brand had anticipated, and it will not return after a pause for the 2025 model year.

Acura has officially announced to Carscoops that production of the ZDX has concluded. This decision follows the termination of the company's EV program with GM. However, Honda's related model remains unaffected by this change.

The definitive announcement reveals that Acura's first all-electric SUV will not be making a comeback. Following the cancellation of its venture with GM at the end of 2023, Acura opted to bypass the 2025 model year. The brand has confirmed to Carscoops that production of the ZDX has been halted immediately. This coincides with the impending conclusion of the federal $7,500 EV tax credit and follows Nissan's decision to discontinue the Ariya EV as well.

An Acura spokesperson told Carscoops, “To better align our product portfolio with the needs of our customers and market conditions, as well as our long-term strategic goals, we can confirm that the Acura ZDX has ended production.”

      Looking Ahead

Despite the discontinuation of the model, Acura emphasized that the ZDX has established a significant foundation for future advancements. The spokesperson added, “ZDX has played a valuable role for the Acura brand and will serve as a basis for what we will introduce next year, including the all-electric Acura RSX, which will be produced at the EV Hub in Ohio in the latter half of 2026, along with hybrid-electric Acura models currently in the works.”

Current owners are assured that “customers will continue to receive full product support through our dealer network, including service, parts, and warranty coverage.”

The announcement first surfaced earlier today via Car Dealership Guy News, referencing an internal memo shared with Acura dealers, but had not been formally confirmed until now.

The ZDX was developed on GM’s Ultium platform, sharing its foundation with the Cadillac Lyriq and Chevrolet Blazer EV, along with the Honda Prologue. Ultimately, it struggled to gain traction, with incentives exceeding $30,000 off MSRP at times, leading to Acura's decision to completely skip 2025. Thus, this announcement is not particularly surprising.

After the end of the collaboration between GM and Honda in late 2023, both companies stated it was a mutual agreement. Honda's CEO, Toshihiro Mibe, remarked, “After studying this for a year, we decided that this would be difficult as a business, so at the moment we are ending development of an affordable EV.” Nevertheless, despite the discontinuation of the ZDX, the brand is evidently continuing to advance its EV initiatives, with the all-electric RSX expected to launch in the latter part of 2026.

Regarding the Prologue, Carscoops has confirmed that the Honda Prologue will remain in production. It will primarily serve as Honda’s main EV offering until the arrival of the next-generation electric architecture. The Prologue has seen steady demand and plays a crucial role in the brand's long-term strategy for an all-electric lineup.
