Ford is recalling 115,539 units of its F-250, F-350, and F-450 Super Duty trucks.

The trucks involved in this recall were manufactured between February 2019 and September 2020.

There is a risk of the upper portion of the steering column shaft detaching.

Just imagine the extra free time America’s mail carriers would have if they weren't tasked with delivering millions of recall notices to Ford customers annually. They might actually squeeze in a round of golf, catch a movie, or spend some time working on their cars in the middle of the day. However, there's no indication that will change soon, as we have just received news of yet another quality issue from the Blue Oval, this time concerning its supposedly toughest vehicles.

      Steering Issues

Ford is recalling 115,539 Super Duty trucks because of concerns that the steering system might fail. The automaker discovered that the upper section of the steering column on F-250, F-350, and F-450 trucks could separate from the lower shaft. Although no related incidents have been reported so far, this problem must be addressed promptly.

The affected trucks were all produced at Ford’s Kentucky facility between February 2019 and September 2020, and each will require a visit to a dealer for inspection of the steering components. Technicians will examine the upper shaft for signs of extension, and any parts that do not pass inspection will be replaced. Even those that pass will need modifications to enhance pull-apart retention.

This marks Ford’s 115th recall of the year, and it's a much smaller issue compared to the last one. A few weeks ago, it was reported that Ford was recalling over a million vehicles due to a problem with rear-view cameras.

An array of vehicles was affected by that recall, including the 2015-2018 Edge, 2015-2017 Expedition, and 2017-2019 Econoline models, in addition to the 2015-2019 F-250, F-350, F-450, and F-550 trucks. It was a significant recall, and unlike some camera recalls, it demands new hardware and cannot be resolved merely with a software update.
