The 2027 Tucson Shuts Down the Curves | Carscoops
The next-generation Tucson has been spotted undergoing tests in Europe, showcasing a boxy front and a clamshell hood under disguise.
Korean media reports indicate that the hybrid-centric lineup is expected to launch in the fall of 2026.
Following significant design changes for Hyundai's three-row Santa Fe and hydrogen-powered Nexo in recent years, the Tucson is set to receive a similar overhaul. Recent spy photos reveal that the upcoming compact SUV has moved away from rounded shapes in favor of a more angular look for a rugged aesthetic.
The 2027 Tucson was caught testing in Europe, covered in a substantial amount of black camouflage, yet it still revealed enough elements of glass, metal, and plastic that hint at its future appearance. According to reports from Korean media, its official unveiling is scheduled for the third quarter of 2026.
More Angular Design and Recognizable Features
One of the most notable changes is the Tucson's much squarer front end, characterized by a vertical grille and flatter hood compared to the current model. This design aligns more closely with the larger Santa Fe but incorporates a clamshell-style hood that extends over the front fenders.
Similar to the Santa Fe, the fenders of the new Tucson feature prominent straight lines that reflect the contour of the plastic arch trims, with a rounded inner section.
The door frames transition from curves to straight lines, mirroring the design choice seen in the Santa Fe, and the waistline ascends at a gentler angle toward the back. However, the portion following the C-pillar is concealed, suggesting it might still angle upward in the last 12 inches, maintaining a visual link to the current Tucson.
The rear hatch retains a crossover-like slope rather than adopting the more vertical position seen on the larger Santa Fe.
Greater Electric Range, Limited Engine Choices
According to Korean Car Blog, Hyundai will significantly emphasize the hybrid aspect of the NX5 Tucson, with plug-in models expected to offer up to 62 miles (100 km) on electric power. Additionally, markets such as Europe, which still have demand for (albeit diminishing) diesel vehicles, will not have that option available this time around.
On the technology front, the new Tucson is anticipated to include advanced driver assistance systems, featuring Level 2+ hands-free driving capabilities. Most notably, it will introduce Hyundai's revamped Pleos infotainment system, equipped with the new Gleo AI assistant for enhanced in-car interaction.
