      The new Mercedes-AMG GT XX concept showcases a tri-motor powertrain and boasts a top speed of over 223 mph.

      Mercedes has unveiled the AMG GT XX concept, which serves as a preview for next year’s performance sedan production model.

      This concept is equipped with a state-of-the-art battery and a tri-motor axial flux powertrain that generates more than 1,341 hp.

      The vehicle is built on the AMG.EA platform, utilizing aluminum, steel, and composite materials.

      Mercedes-AMG is making a significant shift to electric vehicles with the GT XX concept. This impressive four-door coupe incorporates three axial flux motors that together produce over 1,341 hp (1,000 kW / 1,360 PS).

      Intended to preview the revamped AMG GT 4-Door, the concept represents a significant evolution from its predecessor. In addition to its electric drivetrain, the model features a unique exterior design that is sure to elicit mixed reactions.

      The front end is reminiscent of a fish, featuring a large grille that spans nearly the entire vehicle width. This design necessitated the incorporation of auxiliary lights into the grille itself.

      Above it, stacked headlights complement a motorsport-inspired hood that includes split air outlets. The exterior also showcases a subtle splitter that merges into the vertical air curtains at the edges.

      The concept is characterized by an angled windscreen that flows into a coupe-like roofline, creating a compact greenhouse, notably lacking a rear window akin to the Polestar 4.

      In addition to narrow windows, the model features flush door handles and 21-inch aerodynamic wheels that have sections that open and close to optimize both aerodynamics and brake cooling. It also includes sporty side skirts with "luminescent paint segments" that "emit light in response to alternating current."

      While the rear design is somewhat understated, it features muscular haunches and an active airbrake, complemented by a carbon fiber diffuser and six circular LED taillights. The concept is particularly distinguished by its MBUX Fluid Light Panel, equipped with over 700 programmable RGB LEDs, allowing it to communicate with the outside world through text and animations.

      Additional highlights include exterior speakers integrated into the headlights, designed to "emit driving sounds." Although Mercedes has not provided specifics, a recent teaser showcased a prototype of the production model producing simulated engine noises reminiscent of a V8.

      Finished in a striking Sunset Beam orange, the concept also boasts an impressively low drag coefficient of 0.198.

      A Minimalist Cabin Lacking Luxury

      Historically, Mercedes was synonymous with leather and wood, but the interior of the GT XX has a racing simulator aesthetic. This theme is amplified by a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14-inch infotainment screen, and a compact steering wheel inspired by the AMG One.

      The center console features unique illuminated orange tubes designed to mimic voltage cables. Carbon fiber seats, an exposed carbon fiber roof, and a floor made from 100% recycled materials are also included.

      The dashboard is minimalist, utilizing metal components that blend technology with a futuristic vibe. Lightweight door panels incorporate integrated bars with orange pull loops.

      A Powertrain Indicating Future Developments

      While the design will undoubtedly attract attention, the most critical features are located beneath the surface. Notably, the concept is built on the new AMG.EA platform and is outfitted with a high-performance battery designed from the ground up.

      The three axial flux motors, supplied by Yasa, deliver high output within a compact design. They are set to go into production next year and will be featured in various upcoming AMG models, including the new GT 4-Door and an SUV.

      Mercedes disclosed limited details about the motors but confirmed that one is positioned at the front, while two are located at the rear. This configuration facilitates a fully variable all-wheel-drive system, achieving a combined power output exceeding 1,341 hp (1,000 kW / 1,360 PS), enabling a top speed of over 223 mph (359 km/h).

      The motors are not the only significant advancement; the concept is equipped with a high-performance NCMA battery that includes silicon in its anode. Mercedes reported that it delivers an energy density of 300 Wh/kg alongside a long lifespan.

      Furthermore, the battery features cylindrical cells housed within a laser-welded aluminum shell, promising weight savings and efficient heat dissipation. For temperature management, the battery employs a “high-tech coolant” that circulates around each cell to maintain optimal temperatures.

      In terms of charging speed, the concept can gain approximately 249 miles (400 km) of range in just about five minutes, a feat enabled by "very high average charging power of over 850 kW."

      Considering this charging capability surpasses that of traditional DC fast chargers, Mercedes collaborated with Alpitronic to create a prototype charging station.
