The new Lamborghini Temerario features a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine that revs up to 10,000 rpm.

Lamborghini recognizes that internal combustion engines still have significant potential.

Synthetic fuels will also help keep older Lamborghini models operational.

The Lamborghini Temerario is not only a crucial model for the Italian manufacturer, but it also marks the brand's first vehicle designed to run on synthetic fuels. The company's chief technical officer has stated that synthetic fuels will enable Lamborghini to continue producing combustion engines even as the global shift towards electric vehicles accelerates.

While there has been disappointment over Lamborghini replacing its cherished V10, the brand has avoided the route taken by Mercedes-AMG, which opted for a more mundane, fuel-efficient engine. Instead, Lamborghini has crafted a new 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 for the Temerario that can achieve an impressive 10,000 rpm—remarkable for a turbocharged engine of this size. The additional power is provided by three electric motors.

In a recent interview with CarExpert, Lamborghini’s Rouven Mohr mentioned that the Temerario is capable of running on both traditional and synthetic fuels, emphasizing the brand's dedication to internal combustion engines.

“I’m not claiming that synthetic fuel is superior to fossil fuel, but it could potentially save the combustion engine,” he stated. “The new engine has been designed for optimal efficiency and performance with both fuel types.”

Although Lamborghini is aware that electric vehicles are on the horizon and is actively developing its first model, Mohr assured that internal combustion engines still have significant life remaining. For a brand as associated with exhilarating engines as Lamborghini, electric powertrains have not yet reached a level of “convincing” performance.

“When it comes to emotional aspects right now, as I previously mentioned, I don’t see the [electric] solution that is entirely convincing,” he said. “Its time will come, trust me, as this kind of technological transition takes longer. However, we shouldn't wrongly assume that internal combustion engines will become obsolete. I can tell you that the current generation, growing up alongside the electrification of standard vehicles, will eventually find the old combustion engines to be cool.”

Synthetic fuels are crucial not only for new Lamborghini models. Mohr stated that “since the majority of our cars still exist after 60 years,” the brand needs to provide a fuel option for its older vehicles to ensure they can operate following potential bans on internal combustion engines by 2035.
