Tata has launched the refreshed Altroz subcompact hatchback in India.

This model showcases a revamped exterior, a new interior, and retains its existing powertrains.

The starting price for the Altroz is slightly above $8K, making it an economical choice.

The latest facelift of the Tata Altroz hatchback demonstrates how thoughtful updates can make a significant impact. Available exclusively in India (apologies to those in the US and Europe), this affordable model returns with a 2025 facelift that includes both exterior and interior enhancements.

Originally launched in 2019, the Altroz had begun to feel outdated. After six years, it was time for an upgrade. The 2025 edition features a sharper aesthetic, drawing inspiration from Tata's newer design language. Unlike many facelifts that simply refresh the front and rear, the Altroz has been updated throughout its entire profile, with even the body panels receiving a makeover.

The redesigned front of the Altroz is easily identifiable, now equipped with more sophisticated headlights and a sportier bumper design. On the sides, the 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels remind one of Hyundai’s design, while the fenders and doors exhibit cleaner lines and flush door handles. At the rear, the sleeker taillights are linked by a full-width LED strip, and the bumper has been enhanced with plastic cladding.

      A More Elegant Interior

Significant upgrades have also been made to the interior. The digital cockpit now includes dual 10.25-inch displays, complemented by a more angular dashboard, a two-spoke steering wheel, and new climate controls taken from the Tata Curvv.

The rear seating has been redesigned to a lounge style, offering improved thigh support, and the rear doors now open a full 90 degrees for better accessibility. Standard features across all trims include six airbags, while higher-end models provide additional luxuries such as a voice-activated sunroof, wireless charging, and an 8-speaker Harman audio system.

Despite these significant exterior and interior changes, the powertrain options for the facelifted Altroz are carried over from the previous model. Buyers can choose between a 1.2-liter bi-fuel engine (petrol and CNG) producing 73 hp (74 PS), a 1.2-liter petrol engine with 87 hp (88 PS), or a 1.5-liter diesel engine with 89 hp (90 PS). Depending on the selected engine, buyers may opt for a five-speed manual, a six-speed dual-clutch automatic, or a new five-speed automatic, all delivering power to the front wheels.

We are still awaiting news on whether Tata will release an updated version of the sportier Altroz Racer, which currently features a 1.2-liter turbocharged engine generating 118 hp (120 PS).

      Affordable Pricing

The base Altroz Smart starts at Rs 6.89 lakh ($8,100), which is just Rs 290 more than the previous version. At the higher end, the Altroz Accomplished +S variant is priced at Rs 11.29 lakh ($13,300). While these figures may seem remarkably low compared to similarly-sized vehicles in North America or Europe, they are standard for the Indian market.

In India, the Altroz competes with hatchbacks like the Hyundai i20, as well as the Suzuki Baleno and Toyota Glanza. For reference, the Suzuki is the budget-friendly option, starting at Rs 6.70 lakh ($7,900).
