The Toyota GR Supra is nearing its farewell, but before that moment arrives, the company has provided buyers with a fitting send-off. Limited to just 300 units for both Japan and Europe, it boasts a more powerful engine, sharper suspension, improved brakes, and an abundance of carbon fiber. There's also the GR Supra Lightweight Evo, which features minor modifications to its aerodynamics and chassis, marking the final year for this model.
Increased Power, Enhanced Experience
Starting with the A90 Final Edition, it amplifies performance in nearly every conceivable way. It includes an upgraded version of the BMW Z4’s turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine, producing 429 horsepower (320 kW / 435 PS) and 570 Nm (420 lb-ft) of torque. This isn’t merely a slight increase.
The engine includes enhancements such as a revamped air intake, a low-back-pressure catalyst, and optimized engine controls, resulting in an additional 94 horsepower (70 kW / 95 PS) and 70 Nm (52 lb-ft) of torque compared to the standard GR Supra. Toyota has gone further with this version by implementing a baffle plate in the oil pan for more uniform distribution during track sessions, improved cooling, and a sophisticated active differential. Lastly, the Akrapovic titanium exhaust promises to enhance the auditory experience.
A Race-Ready Chassis
The additional power is complemented by a sharper chassis configuration inspired by the GR Supra GT4 racecar. Notably, it features KW suspension with adjustable dampening. Toyota Gazoo Racing has reinforced the front and rear stabilizers along with other suspension elements and increased the wheels’ camber angle to optimize handling.
The A90 Final Edition is fitted with lightweight 19-inch front wheels and 20-inch rear wheels, shod in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires for optimal grip. For stopping power, it utilizes 19-inch Brembo brakes with high-friction pads at the front and drilled floating discs at all four corners.
In terms of looks, while the GR Supra doesn’t carry the GRMN designation as some speculated, the A90 Final Edition still offers a fitting farewell. Features include a carbon fiber swan neck rear spoiler, vented hood, updated splitter with canards, and dual exhausts that produce a dramatic sound.
Inside, it boasts a pair of carbon fiber Recaro Podium CF bucket seats, upholstered in Alcantara for a race-inspired ambiance. The driver's seat is in red, matching the center console, seatbelts, and driver's side door card, while the passenger seat and other interior elements are finished in black, accented with Alcantara and carbon fiber.
The Lightweight Evo: Subtle yet Effective
Alongside the limited-production farewell, Toyota has unveiled a lightly updated version of the GR Supra for its final year on the global market, which includes Japan, Europe, and Australia. Known as the “Lightweight Evo” in Europe and “Track Edition” in Australia, this model benefits from aerodynamic and chassis enhancements.
Exterior features include a new carbon fiber ducktail spoiler and updated vents on the front fenders, designed to enhance aerodynamics. The vehicle is mounted on 19-inch forged aluminum wheels in matte black, fitted with Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires for improved traction. Inside, the cabin is adorned with Alcantara upholstery, red stitching, and matching seatbelts.
The revised electronically-controlled shock absorbers incorporate hardware modifications to the suspension. Strengthened rubber bushings, mounts, stabilizers, and underfloor bracing contribute to higher rigidity and enhanced handling. Additionally, a new active differential control offers improved traction and reduces understeer.
Other adjustments consist of optimized electric power steering, increased camber angle on the wheels, and larger 18-inch Brembo brake discs at the front. The turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine remains unchanged, delivering 382 hp (285 kW / 387 PS) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque. Buyers still have the option between a six-speed manual and an eight-speed automatic transmission.
In addition to the A90 Final Edition and the Lightweight Evo, the European and Japanese ranges of the GR Supra also include the standard model with the familiar 2.0-liter four-cylinder and 3.0-liter six-cylinder powertrain options.
