Real estate tycoon Manny Khoshbin provided insights from the manual of his Bugatti Bolide.
The hypercar’s slick tires are only suitable for 37 miles of track use, and each set costs $8,000.
Additionally, other components such as seatbelts, padding materials, and the fire extinguisher have expiration dates.
When it comes to rare multimillion-dollar hypercars designed solely for the track, it's reasonable to conclude that ownership costs can be as shocking as a steel chair to the face. Manny Khoshbin, one of only 40 fortunate owners of a $4-5 million Bugatti Bolide, recently released a video filled with some astonishing details about the hypercar, including what it takes to prevent the tires from becoming very pricey rubber confetti.
Bugatti goes straight to the point, advising Bolide owners to replace the slick tires after just 37 miles (60 km) of track use for optimal performance and to avoid crashing. Before that, the tires must be preheated, followed by being mounted and unmounted three times to create some kind of “uniform traction pattern.” This, needless to say, is not your typical tire change.
$8,000 Sets and a Five-Year Shelf Life
As per Khoshbin, a new set of tires for the Bolide is priced at $8,000. While that may seem high, it’s actually slightly less than the $7,200 cost for the road-legal Chiron and significantly more affordable than the notorious $42,000 tire package for the Bugatti Veyron. Perspective, if nothing else.
Since the Bolide isn’t street legal, Bugatti thoughtfully provides a different set of narrow tires designed specifically for easier transport. If you resist the temptation to speed around the track and instead keep the hypercar parked inside a climate-controlled garage, the track-only slicks are expected to last about five years before they need to be replaced.
Hidden behind those enormous wheels are the largest carbon-carbon brakes ever fitted to a track-only hypercar, another maintenance aspect that, although its cost is yet to be determined, is unlikely to be cheap.
Expiration Dates for Everything
Moreover, Bolide owners should be aware that several interior components have expiration dates. This includes seatbelts, certain padding materials, the fuel bladder, and notably, the fire extinguisher, which has a battery life of just one year. It’s better to replace these items in time rather than test their limits at 200 mph.
The Bolide is also equipped with an engine kill switch and an emergency fire suppression system, both of which can be activated through designated buttons on the center console or via a prominent red handle on the bodywork.
Starting the Bolide’s quad-turbocharged 8.0-liter W16 engine, which delivers a remarkable 1,578 horsepower (1,177 kW or 1,600 PS), is a task in itself. First, the master switch must be pulled, followed by the ignition switch. Only after this can the start button be pressed, located on a removable, yoke-shaped steering wheel that appears to have been taken straight from a modern endurance racer.
Interestingly, the Bolide lacks built-in cooling fans. Instead, owners have to use portable fans and let the car sit for a minimum of 30 minutes after track use to prevent the massive engine from overheating. And while waiting, don’t forget to refill the 90-gallon tank with 110-octane race fuel.
Manny Khoshbin was among the first U.S. customers to receive delivery of the Bugatti Bolide, an experience he shared with his 1.75 million YouTube subscribers. His garage already showcases an impressive collection of exotic machines, but even within that elite group, the Bolide stands out as one of the most prized possessions. Below is a video where he showcases the hypercar and even takes it for a spin around his property.
