A stunning and rare vehicle is set to be auctioned at next month’s Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este Broad Arrow Auction. The 2006 Mercedes-Benz CLK DTM Convertible, equipped with a supercharged V8, is one of just 80 units produced.
The CLK DTM AMG was launched in 2004 to celebrate Mercedes-Benz’s victory in the 2003 Deutsche Tourenwagen Meisterschaft (DTM) racing series. Initially released only as a coupe, all 100 of the AMG models were quickly acquired, with the cabriolet version following in even more limited quantities.
Creating a hardcore race model that is also a convertible is unusual, which adds to its uniqueness and allure.
Powered by a 5.4-liter supercharged V8, the DTM models delivered 582 horsepower and 800 nm (590 pound-feet) of torque. It could accelerate from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just four seconds, likely with the soft-top up. With a top speed of 300 km/h (186 mph), the CLK DTM AMG Cabriolet was the fastest four-seater convertible in the world at the time.
This performance was complemented by AMG ceramic brakes, coupled with staggered-sized 19- and 20-inch wheels in the front and rear, respectively. The black-on-black cabriolet sports an aggressive exterior design reminiscent of the DTM race car, featuring carbon fiber body panels and a rear wing. The interior blends luxury with practicality.
The AMG front bucket seats are made of leather and come with a four-point seat belt. The racing steering wheel is wrapped in suede. Instead of the typical ashtray (typical of the early 2000s), there’s a panel of switches for traction control, stability control, and transmission settings for spirited driving.
This specific vehicle journeyed to Northern Italy from South Korea, where it was displayed in a museum. After returning to Europe in 2016, the convertible had logged only 19,471 km on the odometer. After being serviced by Mercedes-Benz Eberbach, the current owner took over, using it only for “selective road use.”
With roughly an additional 2,000 km added, the CLK DTM AMG Cabriolet had another service in 2021, this time by the owner's personal mechanic. The latest service occurred last year at a Mercedes-Benz dealer in France, with the odometer just under 22,000 km.
The auction comes with two keys, the original owner’s manual, and a service book. The 2006 CLK DTM AMG Cabriolet is estimated to fetch between 420,000 and 550,000 Euros ($478,000-$625,000) and will be auctioned on May 25.
If you’re not looking to spend half a million, YouTuber Tedward previously put out a POV driving video of one of these:
