New Alfa Romeo Stelvio Emerges, Exuding Strong Mandalorian Vibes | Carscoops
Alfa Romeo's SUV is set for a complete redesign featuring electrified powertrains, updated styling, and new technology.
A camouflaged prototype of the upcoming Alfa Romeo Stelvio has been seen ahead of its launch.
The SUV showcases a sportier profile, split LED headlights, and three-spoke alloy wheels.
The Stelvio will be built on the STLA Large platform and will be available in both electric and hybrid variants.
Update: Alfa Romeo's design team isn't known for taking a conservative approach, and based on these recent images, they have no intentions of changing that. The illustrations presented here depict what the new Stelvio will look like when it debuts later this year.
The patent images of the Italian crossover closely resemble the heavily camouflaged prototype observed earlier this year, featuring narrow headlights and oval-shaped taillights that complement the front design, reminiscent of a Mandalorian helmet, creating a cohesive design theme.
It's important to note that patent images seldom represent the final appearance of the production vehicle. This is particularly evident in the side view, where the drawings fail to accurately illustrate the real curves of the front and rear, leading to an exaggerated impression of the overhangs. Nonetheless, they reveal design details absent from the prototypes.
The styling of the new Stelvio is significantly more aggressive and bold compared to the more restrained current model. It takes cues from the smaller Milano crossover, incorporating elements like a blacked-out roof and part of the C-pillar.

The Scoop On The Stelvio
Alfa Romeo is gearing up to showcase the second-generation Stelvio, and we've finally caught our first glimpse of an actual prototype. Seen testing in Europe, the prototype provides insight into what to expect, with a debut scheduled for later this year ahead of a 2026 market introduction. The new Stelvio, arriving in the U.S. as either the 2026 or 2027 model year, promises a complete overhaul, featuring options for both fully electric and hybrid powertrains.
The prototype, wrapped in the usual Alfa Romeo camouflage, was spotted in northern Sweden towards the end of cold weather testing. These spy photos surfaced shortly after Alfa Romeo CEO Santo Ficili confirmed the Stelvio’s debut in 2025, ahead of its 2026 launch.
Despite the heavy camouflage, the familiar outline of the signature scudetto grille is visible, unmistakably identifying it as an Alfa Romeo. The front end appears to feature split LED headlights, with the upper units reminiscent of the smaller Junior model, offering a subtle reference to the brand’s family design language.
A Sportier, Sleeker Profile
From a side view, the new Stelvio exhibits a more athletic posture, with updated proportions lending it a more streamlined, coupe-like SUV silhouette. The prototype is also equipped with three-spoke alloy wheels and appears slightly longer than the current Stelvio, especially in the wheelbase.
The roofline gracefully slopes down to what seems to be an integrated rear spoiler, emphasizing its sporty character. The rear section nearly confirms that the new Stelvio will include full-width LED taillights in a triangular shape, as shown in earlier teasers.
New Platform, Same Alfa DNA
The new Stelvio will be the first vehicle in Europe to utilize Stellantis’ STLA Large platform, which already supports models such as the Dodge Charger, Jeep Wagoneer S, and the upcoming Jeep Recon. This platform will serve as the foundation for more models across Stellantis brands in the future. For the Stelvio, Alfa Romeo's engineers are likely focused on maintaining the brand's signature sportiness, ensuring the SUV remains true to its performance heritage.
Hybrid and Electric Powertrains
As for the powertrains, it has been officially confirmed that the Italian SUV will provide options for both fully electric and hybrid systems. While specifics are still forthcoming, former Alfa Romeo CEO Jean-Philippe Imparato previously suggested that the high-performance Stelvio Quadrifoglio could deliver as much as 986 horsepower (736 kW/1,000 PS) in its electric variant.
There is also speculation that Alfa Romeo may incorporate the new Charger’s inline-six twin-turbo for the gasoline-powered variants, although no official confirmation has been provided.
The new model will also include the STLA Brain electronic architecture, allowing for over-the-air updates and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). Our spy photographers even captured a glimpse of the interior, which appears to feature a noticeably larger infotainment screen than its predecessor.
We will share more details about the upcoming SUV as its launch approaches later this year. In 2026, the Alfa Romeo Stelvio will be followed by a new generation of the Giulia, which will be designed as a crossover fastback. Like its predecessor, the new Giulia will share the chassis, powertrains, and technology with the Stelvio.
