Taking over from the 488 Pista, the performance-oriented 296 will offer weight reduction, enhanced aerodynamics, and likely an increase in power.

The 296 VS is anticipated to feature an upgraded turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 producing over 850 hp.

The use of lightweight materials and better aerodynamics will enhance handling and performance.

This supercar will be unveiled digitally via the MyFerrari app on April 29.

The eagerly anticipated hardcore iteration of the Ferrari 296 GTB is set to be revealed later this month. This model will continue the tradition of track-oriented yet street-legal supercars from Maranello, which began with the 360 Challenge Stradale in the early 2000s and includes notable models such as the 430 Scuderia, 458 Speciale, and 488 Pista, in addition to the 599 GTO and 812 Competizione. It is one of several new models the Italian manufacturer plans to launch this year, including its first electric vehicle expected in the fourth quarter.

Internally, this new version is referred to as the F171VS, though the official name remains uncertain. Some sources suggest it will be called the 296 VS, or Versione Speciale, and will build on its predecessor by offering greater power, reduced weight, and improved aerodynamics.

The debut will not take place at a traditional auto show or high-profile press conference. According to The Supercar Blog, Ferrari intends to reveal the 296 VS digitally via its MyFerrari app on April 29—a contemporary, albeit less glamorous, method for launching a high-performance supercar.

A heavily camouflaged prototype was seen undergoing testing in February. Although much of the new design was obscured, the vehicle appears to have received refreshed front and rear facias, new aerodynamic components, and distinct wheels. The 296 VS will also come equipped with a larger rear diffuser to better connect those wide rear tires to the road.

As with the standard model, power will be generated by a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 combined with an electric motor. The standard version produces an impressive 819 hp and 546 lb-ft (740 Nm) of torque. However, Ferrari's engineers are expected to refine the hybrid system, likely pushing output towards or beyond 850 hp, nearing the Lamborghini Temerario's 907 hp.

Additionally, recent reports suggest that the driver-focused supercar may include active aerodynamic flaps on the rear decklid to assist with braking and enhance downforce on the rear axle.

While there is no information on the price for the VS, it is certain to carry a substantial premium over the standard 296 GTB. However, as is typical with all new Ferrari models, especially the more exclusive ones, it is certain that customers worldwide will fill Maranello’s order books quickly, much to the delight of resellers.
