The Taycan Turbo GT Weissach has been recognized by Motor Trend as the fastest-accelerating car they've ever tested.

It outperformed competitors such as the Tesla Model S Plaid, Lucid Air Sapphire, and Ferrari SF90 Stradale.

Additionally, it achieved the fourth-fastest lap time on the magazine’s figure-eight handling course.

Electric vehicles are evolving beyond mere efficiency—they have become genuine performance beasts. While the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra may have claimed some accolades by surpassing the Taycan Turbo GT on certain tracks, Porsche’s flagship electric vehicle remains a formidable contender. It not only boasts incredible acceleration, but also excels in braking and handling, as highlighted by Motor Trend.

During testing of the Taycan Turbo GT in its top-tier Weissach configuration, which eliminates the rear seats, Motor Trend recorded an exceptional 0-60 mph (96 km/h) time of 1.89 seconds using its standard one-foot rollout method. This equates to 2.10 seconds without the rollout. To provide context, the 1.89-second dash is 0.05 seconds quicker than the standard Taycan Turbo GT, and it surpasses the Tesla Model S Plaid by 0.18 seconds, a significant achievement. Even the four-door Taycan Turbo GT that Motor Trend previously evaluated was faster than the Tesla to 60 mph.

      Faster Than Fast

This acceleration positions the Porsche ahead of some very high-end rivals. It beats the Ferrari SF90 Stradale Assetto Fiorano’s time of 2.10 seconds and slightly outpaces the Lucid Air Sapphire’s 2.16 seconds. In fact, it now holds the title of the fastest-accelerating car in MotorTrend’s 76-year history.

Motor Trend's quarter-mile time is equally remarkable. The electric Porsche raced down the drag strip in just 9.23 seconds at 150.1 mph. It only trails the Lucid Air Sapphire, which achieved a 9.21-second quarter-mile time at 157.1 mph. As demonstrated by various lap records, it also performs exceptionally well in handling, ranking as the fastest sedan tested on the publication's figure-eight course.

In the testing, the top-tier electric Porsche clocked a time of 21.86 seconds, averaging 1.03g. This is the fourth-fastest time ever recorded, just a hundredth of a second slower than a Chevrolet Corvette Z06 with the Z07 Pack, and close behind the Ferrari 296 GTB and McLaren 765LT.

Braking performance is equally remarkable. The Taycan Turbo GT Weissach came to a stop from 60 mph in merely 93 feet. When it’s time to recharge, the electric vehicle is efficient as well, requiring only 19 minutes to go from 5% to 80% with a high-speed charger.

      At What Cost, Though?

The model tested had a price tag of $233,395. It’s certainly a substantial amount, especially when compared to the $94,900 for the Tesla Model S Plaid, although it comes in cheaper than the $250,575 Lucid Air Sapphire.
