A stock, untouched 1991 Civic Si is a rare find, which explains why someone paid S2000 prices for it.

A plain 1991 Honda Civic Si recently sold for $12,100 on Cars & Bids following a surge of late bidding that increased the price significantly.

This classic Honda has 191,855 miles on the clock and was previously driven by Doug DeMuro.

For years, the Honda Civic has been the preferred option for those in need of a reliable vehicle. Highly dependable, budget-friendly, and practical, it may not stand out, but it consistently delivers when required. Honda has occasionally stepped up its game, most recently with the 315 hp (235 kW / 319 PS) Civic Type R, which is much more than just a reliable hatchback.

Nevertheless, we are puzzled by the sale of this 1991 Civic Si for $12,100 on Cars & Bids. With 191,855 miles (308,761 km) on the odometer, its main claim to fame is its appearance in a Doug DeMuro video.

That may not be an impressive background, but the Rio Red hatchback seems to be in surprisingly good condition considering its age and mileage. The seller pointed out, however, that the car is not perfect, noting “some chips, scratches, blemishes, and faded paint,” along with a “ding” on the driver’s side and other imperfections.

In terms of factory features, there isn’t much apart from a power sunroof and 14-inch steel wheels, along with mud flaps, a rear wiper, and a typical economy car design.

The interior is just as basic as the exterior, featuring highlights such as two-tone seats and an AM/FM audio system with a cassette player. It also comes equipped with manual window cranks and locks. While the interior appears decent, there are signs of wear on the upholstery and trim.

Power comes from a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine that generates 108 hp (81 kW / 110 PS) and 100 lb-ft (135 Nm) of torque, paired with a five-speed manual transmission that sends power to the front wheels. This isn’t the most exhilarating setup, and the seller mentioned a minor oil leak, as well as corrosion on the exhaust.

Considering all of this, it’s surprising to see the car fetch such a high price, especially since an S2000 sold for $12,750 last August on BaT, despite having 185,000 miles and lacking the same retro appeal.
