2027 Range Rover Velar EV is Set to Compete with the Electric Macan | Carscoops

2027 Range Rover Velar EV is Set to Compete with the Electric Macan | Carscoops

The completely electric Range Rover Velar has been spotted undergoing tests.

It is set to launch in spring 2026, designated as a MY27 in the US market.

Beneath its familiar exterior lies Land Rover’s new EMA platform.

Land Rover postponed its earlier intentions to introduce several electric vehicles by 2026, but a wave of electric models from the British luxury brand is forthcoming, including the battery-operated Range Rover Velar, which our spy photo team captured during winter testing.

Though the electric Velar will not be Land Rover’s first EV—that distinction belongs to the full-size Range Rover debuting later this year—it is expected to launch shortly after, likely slated for early 2026, with a showroom arrival anticipated around mid-year as a 2027 model.

While it may not be the brand’s initial SUV without a combustion engine, the Velar will be the first to adopt the automaker’s new EMA electric vehicle architecture. In contrast, the larger Range Rover EV will utilize an electrified version of the MLA platform, which is also employed in the ICE-equipped flagship SUVs sold alongside it.

Similar to the current combustion Velar, the new electric model features a distinctive low roofline and a tapering side window design, giving it a sporty appearance for an SUV. The rear window is notably shallow and appears to be covered by a plastic panel, leading us to speculate that it may lack glass altogether. We already know that Jaguar’s upcoming EV sedan will not include a rear window.

This may not be the only adjustment that JLR has in store. While ICE-powered Velars typically have two rows of seating, the positioning of the rear door in relation to the rear wheel suggests that there might be space for a third row in the new version, or it could signify an increase in trunk capacity.

The clamshell bonnet design, large alloy wheels, and flush door handles closely resemble those on the current model; however, at the back, the license plate has shifted from the hatch to the bumper underneath, similar to the styling seen in the recently introduced Range Rover and Range Rover Sport.

Upon reaching dealerships, the Velar will compete for market share with the Porsche Macan Electric, likely matching it in power and performance. The base Macan is two-wheel drive, priced at $75,300, and produces 355 hp (360 PS / 265 kW), while the top-tier Turbo Electric will cost $105,300 and deliver 630 hp (639 PS / 470 kW).
