The Hemi has made a triumphant return, and customers are showing their support through their purchases.

Sales figures for the V8 are approximately double those of the twin-turbo I6. However, the limited availability of engines is an issue, as they are being 'trickled out.'

During a media event in Detroit today, Ram CEO Tim Kuniskis marked one year since his comeback to Stellantis in 2024. Much has occurred in this timeframe, and Ram seems to be back on the correct path and poised for success.

One of the standout achievements is the reintroduction of the 5.7-liter Hemi V8 in the Ram 1500. Though some may view it merely as another engine option, the overwhelming response, with over 10,000 orders in the first 24 hours, speaks volumes.

Hemi Sales Outpace Hurricane Six Two to One

As Kuniskis noted, the Hemi has essentially become a brand unto itself. The enthusiastic executive has supporting data; Hemi sales are roughly twice that of the twin-turbo 3.0-liter Hurricane inline-six.

While some of this is likely driven by pent-up demand and the engine's recent return, it's clear that Ram customers have a strong preference for Hemi power. This presents a challenge as the company is unable to produce 5.7-liter V8s quickly enough.

This is a fortunate dilemma, especially since the engine is priced at an additional $1,200 compared to the twin-turbo inline-six. Nonetheless, the situation isn't perfect, as Hemi production is still being 'trickled out' from the factory.

In an ideal scenario, Kuniskis would appreciate having an extra 100,000 Hemi engines available. Nevertheless, he expressed contentment with current progress and indicated that conditions should improve gradually.

Unfortunately, supply issues are affecting availability, leading consumers to find only two trims with Hemi engines at dealerships: the Big Horn and Laramie, which are popular models.

This indicates that securing a Hemi-powered Warlock, Limited, or Limited Longhorn may be challenging. If you're intent on acquiring one of those models, placing an order and waiting might be your best option.

      Of course, opting for the twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six isn't a poor alternative, as it generates 420 hp (313 kW / 426 PS) and 460 lb-ft (623 Nm) of torque, which is 25 hp (19 kW / 25 PS) and 50 lb-ft (68 Nm) more than the Hemi V8.
