GT500CR builds from Classic Recreations begin at nearly $700,000.

      Featuring a carbon-bodied 427 V8 engine, it generates 900 hp and is equipped with a six-speed transmission.

Classic Recreations has also incorporated Wilwood brakes and new interior finishes.

A remarkable 1968 Ford Mustang restomod is currently for auction in the US, combining classic muscle with modern performance in a manner that few builds achieve. While it might not possess the technological advancements of Ford's modern Mustang GTD, it arguably doesn't require them.

This classic Ford boasts enhanced performance, more carbon fiber, and possibly an even greater presence. It exemplifies a restomod approach that advocates for traditional methods, with significant upgrades.

The project is a product of Classic Recreations, featuring the company’s GT500CR package. It includes a lightweight carbon fiber body from SpeedKore Performance and largely replicates the appearance of the original Eleanor, dressed in a Pepper Gray finish with racing stripes and exposed carbon fiber weave.

Powering this classic vehicle is an impressive 427 cubic-inch (7.9-liter) supercharged V8 producing 900 hp, and a nine-inch rear end helps transfer this power effectively. In comparison, the Mustang GTD is limited to 815 hp and comes exclusively with a 10-speed automatic transmission.

In contrast, this 1968 model offers a more analog feel with a six-speed Tremec manual gearbox, providing a mechanical experience that’s unapologetically classic.

Under the hood, this Ford includes modern rack-and-pinion steering, aftermarket coilovers, and new front and rear sway bars. It rides on 18-inch Forgeline wheels fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport tires, sized 225/40 at the front and 315/30 at the rear.

Braking is managed by red Wilwood calipers that work with cross-drilled and slotted rotors, ensuring the braking performance matches the power of the engine.

Will It Fetch the Right Price?

According to the Bring a Trailer listing, the vehicle has only accrued 418 miles (673 km) since its upgrade. Classic Recreations recently faced financial challenges, but despite this tumultuous period, its vehicles continue to command high respect and prices.

The company’s website reveals the starting price: anyone interested in ordering a new GT500CR with the available 900 hp V8 must be prepared to spend an astonishing $699,900, excluding additional options.

It's uncertain how much this particular model will auction for, but it would be surprising if it approached the MSRP, especially since a lower-spec model sold for $290,500 last year, despite an initial price exceeding $574,000. You can view the listing here.
