Certain 2026 Chevy Silverados and Cadillac Vistiqs were dispatched without an owner's manual.
GM is recalling over 3,500 vehicles due to the absence of an owner’s manual.
Employees overlooked adding these manuals to specific 2026 Silverado trucks.
This error led to the 2026 Vistiq lacking the capability to download an electronic manual.
While many individuals might not consult their owner’s manual, its absence has prompted two distinct recalls at General Motors, affecting more than 3,500 vehicles from the 2026 model year.
The most significant recall includes 3,408 Silverado 1500, 2500, and 3500 trucks, which “may not have received an owner’s manual during production.”
GM became aware of the problem in October after a dealer reported that four Silverado 2500 pickup trucks lacked their owner’s manual. This prompted an investigation that revealed workers had not adhered to instructions and failed to include an owner’s manual in the dealer pack.
Since this was merely a mistake, the solution is straightforward; dealers will provide the affected customers with an owner’s manual. Notifications are expected to be sent out in early next month.
A High-Tech Headache
The second recall concerns 94 Cadillac Vistiqs and is notably more technological in nature. As explained by the government, “The radio may not have been set to the correct status to download the electronic owner’s manual during production.”
This likely pertains to the infotainment system, where an employee found that vehicles left the plant without the “radio” being set to transport mode. This mode is crucial as it “automatically triggers a reboot of the radio which, among other things, automatically downloads the electronic owner’s manual to the vehicle and allows owners to log in to their myCadillac app upon delivery.”
Cadillac initially attempted to resolve the issue with a technical service bulletin and an email to customers detailing how to reboot the radio by pressing the call-end/mute button for 15 seconds.
The company did not consider the issue severe, as “even without manual reboot, the radio will self-reboot after 24 hours of accumulated driving time.”
However, GM ultimately decided to proceed with a recall after receiving 12 potential complaints related to the matter.
To rectify the issue, dealers will reset the radio to initiate an automatic download of the owner’s manual. It is also important to note that these vehicles do not come with a condensed printed manual containing government-mandated information, unlike some other vehicles.
