Gas Monkey’s 6x6 Ferrari Project Has Exploded Into Full-Blown Drama | Carscoops

You won’t believe the drama surrounding this alteration of an iconic Italian supercar.

Six-wheeled Testarossa project encounters delays, turmoil, and escalating chaos.

Danton accuses Gas Monkey Garage of underpaying him and taking credit.

Rawlings asserts that extensive rework was necessary and that the car is still incomplete.

Over a year ago, a peculiar six-wheeled Ferrari Testarossa made its way online, capturing widespread attention. This unusual, elongated creation sparked curiosity, skepticism, and numerous inquiries.

Now, after months of silence, we’re finally receiving official information about what it is, how it came into being, and the challenges it has faced along the way.

The saga of this six-wheeled Ferrari has been fraught with drama, missed deadlines, and creative conflicts. Progress has been sluggish, and given how events have transpired, it seems the universe might be subtly indicating that some concepts are better left unfinished.

      What exactly is happening?

In early 2024, Danton Art Kustoms and Frechy Export LLC created a six-wheeled AM General Humvee that sent power to only two of its wheels, utilizing a Dodge Hellcat Hemi V8 engine.

On paper and in pictures, it appeared impressive. The two custom shops sold the vehicle to Richard Rawlings and Gas Monkey Garage, subsequently selling it at Barrett-Jackson for $750,000.

That sale was intended to signify the start of a new collaboration. Danton and Rawlings reportedly agreed that if the Humvee performed well, Gas Monkey Garage would finance their next ambitious project, which evolved into a six-wheeled Ferrari Testarossa.

For a long period, there was no news about it. Then, approximately three weeks ago, an Instagram post featuring Rawlings and the car was shared, prompting Alex Danton to comment with some statements that reignited controversy.

He expressed this sentiment about Rawlings and Gas Monkey Garage: “It’s so easy to steal and take credit for other people’s work. Karma is very important 👏. Yes, liar and thief, I did it; they didn’t touch a nut.”

“He didn’t even compensate me more than 10 percent of my work after I did it alone and signed contracts to remain silent. He uses their financial power to overpower people. I prefer to work to get my art recognized rather than pay lawyers for no reason.”

However, Rawlings claims that the Ferrari required far more work than anticipated. Allegedly, the fabrication, paint, and fitment did not meet expectations, necessitating a reassessment of almost every component of the build. This leads us to the current situation.

How close is it to completion?

At this point, Rawlings and the team are nearing completion, yet he clearly states that in its present state, it’s only “sort of okay.”

To achieve the desired outcome, he says it will require a “S@#t ton of work.” That’s right, even after all this, it remains far from finished. In response to an inquiry about the car’s current status, Danton remarked, “destroy.”

The astonishing part is, we actually witnessed and reported on this car as it was moved to the GMG location in September. At that time, it seemed progress was being made, but looking back, it’s evident that the build was already encountering difficulties.

With Rawlings’ new insights, it’s clear that this travesty would likely plead to be put out of its misery if it had the ability to express such a wish.
