A previously bankrupt restomod company has been revitalized as Velocity Restorations takes over, ensuring the continuation of officially licensed Shelby builds.

Classic Recreations, known for its premium Ford Mustang restomods, was saved from bankruptcy by Velocity Restorations.

The resurgent company will carry on producing Shelby-licensed GT500 and Cobra models.

Velocity’s facility in Pensacola will now handle all future builds previously managed by Classic Recreations.

After abruptly declaring bankruptcy, Classic Recreations has found a new lease on life. This American company, recognized for creating high-end muscle cars and officially licensed Shelby builds, is back under new ownership.

Velocity Restorations, a restomod builder based in Florida, has not only acquired Classic Recreations but also secured an essential licensing agreement with Shelby to keep the brand's vital projects ongoing.

While specific acquisition figures haven't been disclosed, it has been confirmed that Classic Recreations will now function out of Velocity’s Pensacola factory, where production of its well-known models will recommence.

The company will continue to manufacture its 1967-68 GT500 steel body and 1967-68 GT500CR carbon fiber models, in addition to its 1969 Boss 429, 1969 Hitman, and Shelby Cobra recreations.

With the renewed licensing agreement with Shelby, Classic Recreations’ GT500 and Cobra models will remain officially sanctioned, which is crucial in preventing any legal issues from Ford or Shelby.

“Classic Recreations holds a significant place in American performance culture,” stated Velocity CEO Stuart Wilson. “Our team is refining the brand with an emphasis on craftsmanship, transparency, and long-term stability. With strengthened engineering, updated branding, and an improved partnership with Shelby, Classic Recreations is set for a prosperous future.”

      What Lies Ahead for Velocity?

Velocity operates from a 135,000-square-foot facility, producing hundreds of vehicles annually. The company offers its own restomodded versions of iconic American vehicles including the 1966-1977 Ford Bronco, 1967-1968 and 1987-1993 Ford Mustangs, classic Ford F-100, F-150, and F-250s, as well as modernized Chevrolet C10s, K10s, K5 Blazers, and original Scout models.

Most of the projects planned by Classic Recreations for 2026 have already been sold, and they have recently opened allocations for 2027.

When the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in July, it had outstanding liabilities ranging from $1,001,000 to $10 million. The company quickly brought in a turnaround specialist, and fortunately for enthusiasts of high-end restomods, it was saved from the edge of collapse.
