I once owned a Jeep. It was an early Wrangler JK Unlimited, one of the first four-door models with the 3.8-liter Pentastar V6 and an automatic transmission. That vehicle was a bit underwhelming, but you know what? We had a blast with it—especially after we figured out how to take the doors off, which took longer than I'm willing to admit. For owners of the 2026+ Wrangler, this shouldn’t be a problem anymore, as the manufacturer has made the entire process much simpler by eliminating the need for tools.
You often hear about Jeeps going without their tops, but we're not referring to roofs here. Instead, the iconic brand has finally removed the provided Torx bit and wrench to expedite the process. Jeep hasn’t detailed exactly how it functions, and no one has had the opportunity to test a 2026 model yet, but it seems there is now a plastic latch that simplifies the removal of the hinge pins. Of course, you still have to lift the door off yourself. How easy do you really want it to be?

Until now, owners needed a #50 Torx head driver to detach the upper and lower hinge pin screws on the door's exterior. After that, they would keep the fasteners stored under the false floor in the Wrangler's trunk or in the hardware compartment beneath the Gladiator’s rear seat. A #40 Torx head driver was then necessary to take off the check screw from the inside, meaning you were stuck (pun intended) if you lost one of the Torx heads. Reversing the process every time you wanted to reattach the doors was a hassle, though I admit it’s still much simpler than removing the doors of a standard car.

This is positive news for everyone except two groups: the company that provided the tools included with new Wranglers and anyone with a monetized YouTube channel who has ever posted a video titled, “How to Remove Jeep Doors in Five Minutes or Less! So Easy! A Toyota Driver Could Do It!”
