The Beetle’s 1.8-liter turbo engine has undergone extensive modifications.

It comes equipped with Eibach sway bars, Brembo brakes, and Vogtland coilovers.

Having been revamped in the mid-2000s, it has only traveled 57,000 miles since.

The Beetle may not be the first car that comes to mind when considering a driver-centric, enthusiast-designed hot hatch, but this particular model is distinct from all others in the U.S. What started as a simple compact car has been transformed inspired by RUF-tuned Porsche aesthetics.

Updated in the mid-2000s following the style of RUF’s modified 911s, this unique Volkswagen is now for sale and is attracting the attention of curious viewers.

It should be noted that while the listing calls it a “RUF-Modified” vehicle, this is somewhat inaccurate. RUF did not construct this Beetle at its German facility; rather, it was modified with assistance from RUF Auto Center, which previously served as the brand’s representative in America.

This business has since been rebranded as RAC Performance and stopped representing RUF in 2010.

Now, while this is not an official RUF product, it closely resembles the offerings from the renowned German tuner and manufacturer. The body has been altered with new bumpers and finished in Reflex Silver Metallic. Additionally, it boasts 19-inch RUF wheels, an oval exhaust tip, and has received extensive mechanical enhancements.

Notable upgrades include braided stainless steel brake lines, six-piston Brembo front calipers, Eibach sway bars, Vogtland coilovers, and reinforced transaxle mounts, all selected to enhance responsiveness and overall feel.

      Engine Modifications

Significant work has also been done on the vehicle's turbocharged 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine. The Bring a Trailer listing indicates the inclusion of an aftermarket intake, diverter valve, Samco hoses, new engine mounts, and an APR ECU programmed for both 93 and 100 octane fuel.

Unfortunately, the listing does not specify how much power the small engine produces, but it’s likely sufficient to spin the front wheels.

Despite being a 2002 model, this Beetle has accumulated only about 57,000 miles (91,700 km). The interior has been modernized with Recaro Sportster CS seats, providing comfort for street driving while also serving well for canyon carving.

Those interested in acquiring this unique, RUF-inspired Beetle should hurry, as bidding ends on Sunday. You can view the listing here.
