Honda Odyssey Facelift Envisioned with Prelude Design and It Actually Fits | Carscoops

A digital artist has given the Honda Odyssey a makeover inspired by the Prelude, resulting in a revamped appearance for the family van.

The artist, Thanos Pappas, has envisioned the Odyssey with design elements reminiscent of the Prelude.

The front features upgraded LED headlights and a grille taken from the new coupe. At the back, it showcases full-width taillights and a bumper styled like a diffuser.

The revival of the Prelude has reintroduced Honda into the two-door coupe market, albeit not exactly as long-time enthusiasts had hoped. Nevertheless, its design has sparked a wave of digital interpretations, leading independent artists to apply this aesthetic to various Hondas, including, surprisingly, the Odyssey.

The imaginative redesign comes from Digimods Design, which used the current US version of the Odyssey as a base while altering several key aspects.

The most noticeable modifications occur at the front, where the updated LED headlights, grille, and more pronounced Prelude-like nose replace the original features. The bumper intakes, adapted from the CR-V e:FCEV, were selected to better match the minivan’s higher profile.

As a facelift, the side profile, complete with sliding doors and a floating roofline, remains unchanged. However, the visual updates continue at the rear, where the Odyssey adopts the full-width LED taillights from the Prelude, accompanied by a black trim piece on the bumper that highlights a diffuser-style insert.

While the overall look is visually appealing, the designer did miss one important functional aspect: a proper tailgate that extends into the rear bumper, which is vital for any real minivan, though this detail is less of a concern in a digital rendering.

Imagination often overlooks practicality, leading to the next conceivable enhancement: perhaps adding some sporty aerodynamic components, potentially sourced from Honda or even Mugen.

Although this redesign is fictional, it would complement an e:HEV hybrid powertrain that would be a suitable addition to the existing Odyssey lineup.

An electrified setup would significantly improve efficiency compared to the current 3.5-liter V6 engine. However, Honda would likely need to enhance its existing e:HEV unit to match the V6's performance while accommodating the Odyssey's size and weight.

The fifth-generation US-version Odyssey debuted in 2017, received facelifts in 2020 and again in 2024, and is expected to continue in production for several more years before undergoing a complete redesign. Its current competitors include the Toyota Sienna, Chrysler Pacifica and Voyager, and the Kia Carnival.
