The New Renault Twingo Has Just Been Revealed, and It's Just as Adorable as You Expected | Carscoops
The fourth-generation Renault Twingo appears to be a contemporary revival of the original model from the early '90s.
Recently, images of the Renault Twingo EV were leaked online ahead of its official launch.
The production model closely resembles both the 2023 concept and the 1992 original.
The electric urban vehicle is expected to be priced below €20,000 ($23,000) before any subsidies.
Scheduled for its launch on November 6, the Twingo's fourth generation was partially revealed through leaked images, showcasing both its exterior and interior beforehand. This compact city car looks set to return with its characteristic appeal and a new electric engine.
The production model reflects the 2023 concept almost precisely, with only minor modifications, such as conventional door handles, wheel covers, slightly modified LED lights, and redesigned bumpers featuring protective cladding for practicality in everyday use.
The new Twingo maintains its distinctive frog-eyed appearance, compact one-box shape, and rounded rear, reminiscent of the spirit of the 1992 original, but is now extended into a larger five-door configuration.
Overall, it appears to be another well-executed design by Renault’s team, following the slightly bigger R5 which garnered attention for its sleek aesthetics.
What’s inside?
The interior retains much of the concept's character but simplifies materials for production. Hard plastics replace the premium surfaces of the show car, and the seats are now outfitted in conventional fabric upholstery.
The dashboard features a floating infotainment screen above a smaller instrument cluster, which seems to come from Dacia's parts inventory.
Fortunately, Renault has retained physical climate controls on both the center console and steering wheel. A yellow accent spans the dashboard, complemented by a unique red piece situated between the front seats.
What powers it?
Unlike previous models, the fourth generation Twingo will be exclusively available with an electrified powertrain. It will utilize the group's AmpR Small platform (formerly CMF-BEV), which it shares with the larger R5, R4, and Nissan Micra.
Renault has not yet disclosed detailed specifications, but the city car is anticipated to come equipped with a single electric motor and a compact lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery.
The Twingo in the market
In Europe’s A-segment, the Twingo will compete against small electric vehicles like the Dacia Spring and Leapmotor T03, as well as the forthcoming VW ID.Every1 and an unnamed Nissan counterpart. It will also compete with affordable B-segment options including the Fiat Grande Panda and Citroën e-C3 twins.
In 2023, Renault's then-CEO Luca de Meo stated that the new Twingo would be priced under €20,000 ($23,000) before subsidies, with leasing options starting at around €100 ($115) per month.
Whether these prices will hold up in the current market is yet to be determined. All details should be confirmed on November 6, along with the technical specifications and European launch information.
