The Chery T1TP concept introduces a flexible family vehicle that adapts to various needs.

This model can shift into an SUV, pickup, or camper.

It is built on a unibody chassis with a plug-in hybrid powertrain.

The concept aims to become a production-ready vehicle by 2026.

Chery, a Chinese automotive manufacturer, has unveiled a new concept termed the “Transformable Multi-SUV,” designed to alter its form based on the requirements of its driver.

Internally referred to as the T1TP, this versatile model can be manually converted into a seven-seat SUV, a double-cab pickup, or even a camper, intending to cater to nearly all scenarios a family might face—99 percent, according to Chery.

The concept measures 4.9 m (192.9 inches) in length, making it larger than the Tiggo 9 SUV. Its design shares similarities with the Himla ladder-frame pickup introduced earlier this year, although the T1TP is built on a unibody chassis.

At the front, the split LED headlights sit alongside a large hexagonal grille, enhanced by side air intakes for a more striking appearance. The silhouette resembles that of the Tiggo 9, but features standard door handles instead of flush ones.

A standout feature is the roof extension, central to the concept's transformative abilities.

      The Shape-Shifting Roof

Chery states that the T1TP can be configured in six different ways, depending on how the interior and exterior modules are arranged.

The standard configuration is labeled “Large 7-Seat SUV Mode,” boasting an interior height of 1,284 mm (50.6 inches) that allows a six-year-old to stand comfortably and makes it easy for older passengers to enter and exit without bending. The rear includes a split tailgate for cargo area access.

The second configuration, “Double-Cab Pickup Mode,” is activated by removing the rear module via a quick-release mechanism. This change eliminates the third row, revealing a 600-liter (21.2 cubic feet) bed complete with tie-down points and adjustable dividers. According to Chery, this space can accommodate items ranging from surfboards and camping gear to floral arrangements and tools.

The final key configuration is “Camper Mode,” which is equipped with a deployable side awning, a pop-up roof tent, rear entertainment screens, and an external power supply.

      What’s Underneath?

Chery has not yet provided details about the powertrain, but the tailgate badging suggests the presence of the brand’s Super Hybrid system. This plug-in hybrid setup includes a turbocharged 1.5-liter engine, an electric motor, a unique transmission, and a floor-mounted battery pack.

Reportedly, this configuration offers a combined driving range between 1,200 and 1,400 kilometers (745–870 miles).

Chery announced that the development of this new model began in February 2024, with a 20-member product expert team conducting extensive research for over 300 days across “multiple international markets.”

Chery anticipates the production model will debut in the third quarter of 2026, starting in China. It remains to be seen whether the final version will maintain all the shape-shifting features of the concept, but if even some are retained, the T1TP could become one of the more exciting family vehicles in the near future.
