Toyota GR Supercar Previewed Before Upcoming Launch | Carscoops
It seems that Toyota's enigmatic project for the Japan Mobility Show will reveal the GR GT performance flagship.
Toyota has teased its upcoming GR performance flagship at Fuji Speedway in Japan. The successor to the LFA will feature GR badges for both road and racing variants. Its powertrain will include a hybrid system with a twin-turbocharged V8 engine.
As Toyota prepares for a series of announcements related to this new project uniting its Gazoo Racing, Lexus, Century, and Daihatsu sub-brands, an early preview of a highly anticipated supercar carrying the GR emblem has been revealed ahead of the October 13 press conference.
The information surfaced on X, where Toyota Motor Corporation’s official account shared images of a new sign at Fuji Speedway labeled “GT Corner.” This showcases the classic 1967 Toyota 2000GT, the 2010 Lexus LFA, and the new supercar featuring the GR emblem.
It remains unclear if the "GT Corner" name is merely symbolic or if it suggests the car’s official name, potentially GR GT.
The teaser's caption states: “On the right is the 2000GT, next to it is the LFA, and next to that is…?” This indicates that Toyota has moved away from the previously speculated Lexus LFR for the LFA's successor, instead developing it as a dedicated Gazoo Racing model.
Images of camouflaged prototypes, for both track and road versions, suggest that this new flagship is based on the 2022 Toyota GR GT3 concept. Over recent years, the car has been frequently spotted during development testing and made appearances at the 2025 Goodwood Festival of Speed. The latest teaser reveals LED headlights, a black stripe, and bumper intakes that closely resemble the road-going prototype. The racing variant features more aggressive aerodynamic enhancements, extra LED clusters, and side-mounted exhausts for a more streamlined look.
The anticipated supercar is thought to be built on an aluminum chassis enveloped in carbon fiber, balancing lightness with strength. Reports indicate that power may come from a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine complemented by electric motors in a self-charging hybrid setup.
This arrangement would place the new GR model firmly in the category of contemporary hybrid supercars, merging Toyota’s racing legacy with its electrification technologies.
Toyota is expected to unveil the GR GT on Monday, October 13, ahead of its public introduction at the 2025 Japan Mobility Show later this month.
In addition to the new supercar, the press conference will likely address more extensive plans that unify the Century, Lexus, Toyota, and Daihatsu brands under a shared performance-driven initiative.
While specific details are limited, there are rumors that Century will adapt into a global brand, potentially broadening its current sedan and SUV offerings.
Lexus may reveal further details about future models, including the impressive Sport Concept unveiled at The Quail as a potential electric successor to the aging LC, or introduce a new generation of the flagship LS sedan.
Finally, Toyota might provide insights into the forthcoming GR Celica project, which is speculated to feature a mid-engine design. Regardless of what unfolds, the October 13 event is set to be a pivotal occasion for Toyota’s performance and luxury sectors.
