Ram is confidently showcasing its V8's return, ensuring that anyone feeling slighted notices the Hemi celebration.
The 2026 Ram 1500 has reintroduced the Hemi V8 as an option, and the automaker has labeled this return as a “symbol of protest.” This isn’t just a catchphrase; there's an actual fender badge with the same name. While driving a 2026 Ram 1500 Big Horn equipped with the V8 this week, I discovered that the Symbol of Protest Badge is indeed listed on the window sticker.
You can't make this stuff up.

It’s a bit unusual, and after pondering it for a while, I couldn't identify another vehicle that highlights a specific exterior badge on the window sticker. I’m sure there might be one, but nothing comes to mind.
The Hellcats didn’t even have their exterior badges mentioned on their window stickers. I verified this.
Interestingly, Tim Kuniskis, who was the CEO of Dodge during the Hellcat period, now leads Ram trucks and is behind the V8’s comeback.
When the return of the Hemi V8 for the Ram 1500 was revealed in June, Kuniskis remarked, “Data be damned—we raise our flag and let the Hemi ring free again!”
The data Kuniskis refers to indicates that the V8 is no longer the preferred truck engine in America.
Ram isn’t the only one reaffirming its commitment to the V8 engine in trucks; GM is maintaining its V8 lineup while others shift to six-cylinder engines.
The resurrected Hemi V8 will cost an additional $2,895 when ordering a 2026 Ram 1500. This adds a $1,695 charge for an engine that offers less power than the turbo-six, inferior fuel economy, but plenty of freedom sound.
