The Skoda Fabia 130 can reach 62 mph in 7.4 seconds and has a maximum speed of 142 mph, yet it falls short compared to the Mini Cooper S.

Skoda is enhancing its smallest hatchback with the introduction of the Fabia 130.

This modified 1.5-liter turbocharged TSi engine now produces a total of 175 hp, an increase of 27 hp.

Improvements in handling come from a lower suspension, more responsive steering, and a recalibrated DSG system.

Celebrating its 130th anniversary this year, Skoda has made a whimsical addition to its lineup with the Fabia 130, which stands as the fastest factory version of the Fabia hatchback in its 26-year history.

Built on the existing Fabia Monte Carlo, the 130 features the same 1.5-liter TSI EVO2 engine, now delivering 175 hp (177 PS) after gaining 27 hp (27 PS). While the torque remains unchanged at 184 lb-ft (250 Nm), the increase in horsepower notably enhances its acceleration capabilities.

According to Skoda, the 130 can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 7.4 seconds, a reduction of 0.6 seconds, and the time taken to speed up from 50 to 75 mph (80-120 km/h) during overtaking has improved from 5.3 to 4.8 seconds. The top speed has also risen from 139 mph (224 km/h) to 142 mph (229 km/h).

Additional features include a revised seven-speed dual-clutch transmission—unfortunately, there's no manual option—along with a 15 mm (0.59 inches) drop in suspension and updated steering software to enhance feedback through the tinted 18-inch Libra alloy wheels.

Regardless of whether you select Moon White, Velvet Red, Race Blue, or Black Magic for the exterior, the Fabia 130 comes with a gloss black roof, pillars, and mirrors. It also includes front and rear spoilers, as well as a rear diffuser, all finished in black, along with red brake calipers, which aren't available on the visually similar Monte Carlo model.

The "130" badge is subtly applied, appearing only on the front fenders and rear hatch, though it is also noted on the door sills upon entering the vehicle.

      Pricing for Competitiveness

Currently, the Monte Carlo with the 148-hp 1.5 engine is priced at £26,995, while the quicker and better-equipped 130 is offered at £29,995 in the UK. However, Skoda faces a significant challenge from the Mini.

The newly updated Mini Cooper S is priced at £29,265 and boasts 201 hp (204 PS), a maximum speed of 150 mph (242 km/h), and a 0 to 62 mph time of 6.8 seconds.
