Jeep Discontinues Wagoneer as Grand Wagoneer Expands into a Larger Model | Carscoops
The current Wagoneer is set to be discontinued, just prior to the launch of the updated Grand Wagoneer.
Jeep plans to phase out the Wagoneer name for the 2026 model year. The Grand Wagoneer will incorporate less expensive variants as Jeep streamlines its offerings.
A new 663 hp 4xe version could introduce electrified performance to the lineup.
The Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer have been prominent models for Jeep, representing full-size luxury SUVs that blend American strength with high-end comfort. However, it appears that the family may soon lose one of its members.
Reports indicate that the Wagoneer will be eliminated entirely for the 2026 model year, but customers seeking a similar vehicle won’t be left without options. The Grand Wagoneer lineup is anticipated to expand, introducing a few more affordable models to fill the void and maintain the brand's identity.
According to dealers, since the introduction of both the standard Wagoneer and the premium Grand Wagoneer, customers have often viewed them as interchangeable. Many buyers either stretch their budget for the better-equipped Grand Wagoneer or wait for deals on the Wagoneer.
In terms of simplifying the lineup, several Jeep dealers across the US have noted that the Wagoneer is nearing its end. The standard Wagoneer currently starts at $59,945 for the short-wheelbase version and $62,945 for the extended variant. In contrast, the Grand Wagoneer starts at $84,945 and is available in both sizes, clearly establishing it as the more luxurious option.
However, it’s not just the Wagoneer name that is being dropped. The trim structure of the Grand Wagoneer is also undergoing changes. A recent application with the United States Patent and Trademark Office hints that Jeep plans to replace the Series I, II, and III designations with names that are more consistent with its overall lineup, such as Limited and Summit.
Updates for the 2026 model year are also in the works. Look for updated LED headlights alongside a new bumper design, while the rear will sport a sleek, full-width LED light bar for a more contemporary appearance.
For the new model year, the Grand Wagoneer will continue to come with the 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged inline-six Hurricane engine as standard. A Hemi-powered option may still be in the pipeline, although Jeep has yet to provide details on that.
What is confirmed, however, is the upcoming 4xe range-extended hybrid, which will combine a 3.6-liter V6 with two electric motors and a 92 kWh battery pack. The total output is expected to reach 663 hp and 615 lb-ft (833 Nm) of torque.
