The Mercedes-Benz GLC has been the brand’s top seller for some time, and now it's going electric. Of course, it's not going all-in on electric; that would be counterproductive. Instead, the manufacturer is introducing a battery-powered version of the midsize SUV that will be available alongside the traditional gasoline and plug-in hybrid options. It features an impressive array of technology aimed at attracting buyers, highlighted by the optional 39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen and 13—yes, 13—Mercedes logos scattered throughout the exterior. Think you can locate them all?

The first logo is easily spotted as it’s the most noticeable feature on the large grille. There’s another on the hood, right above it. If you peek inside the familiar headlights, another logo is visible in each. At a glance, the profile of the gas and EV models appears similar, but guess what? You’ll discover four more Benz logos—one on each wheel. The back three-quarter view showcases the EV’s unique design, with the heckblende taillight incorporating four additional Mercedes-Benz logos. When you include the standard silver emblem in the center, that makes a total of 13 logos, ensuring everyone knows you drive a Benz.

The three-point star in front is even illuminated, and according to Mercedes, there are 942 illuminated points solely on the grille. You can opt to pay extra for the grille to display special animations.

The high-end GLC400 4Matic with EQ Technology will launch with 483 horsepower. It comes equipped with numerous advanced features that streamline your driving experience, such as 4.5-degree rear-axle steering. True to the Benz reputation, the SUV also offers an incredibly smooth ride, featuring optional intelligent air suspension familiar to returning customers from the S-Class. Furthermore, it boasts a towing capacity of up to 5,291 pounds.

As is fitting with any luxury vehicle, the electric GLC’s interior houses the majority of its standout features. The previously mentioned MBUX Hyperscreen undoubtedly takes center stage, and while it’s optional, it will likely be included in most deliveries to dealerships. At 39.1 inches, it's the largest continuous display in a Mercedes-Benz, offering extensive customization options. It includes 11 background motifs that not only alter the display but also change the cabin's ambient lighting, creating the perfect atmosphere.

Speaking of entertainment, the car’s display supports various video streaming applications, including Disney+. Passengers can enjoy their favorite superhero films during long trips, or, if you have kids like mine, it’ll be Bluey on repeat. Imagine hearing that via the optional Burmester 3D Surround Sound System—or even better, the Burmester 4D Surround Sound System, which adds tactile bass vibrations in the seats.

Mercedes claims that the infotainment system is the world's first to utilize artificial intelligence from both Microsoft and Google. The MBUX Virtual Assistant incorporates AI capabilities and features from both companies, choosing the most suitable source to accomplish tasks and can reportedly switch back and forth in conversation. According to Benz’s press release, “conversing with the MBUX Virtual Assistant is akin to chatting with a friend,” emphasizing that it’s “intelligent, easy to engage with, and understanding.” It appears as an always-present “living” avatar shaped like a Mercedes logo.

The electric GLC can also feature the Sky Control panoramic roof that can change between opaque and transparent upon command. This roof has nine controllable segments, reminiscent of how my parents used to say they only had three TV channels growing up. Now, your car's sunroof offers more options than that, all managed via the AI voice assistant. (Of course!)

Lastly, to enhance your experience, Mercedes has integrated 10 external cameras, five radar sensors, and twelve ultrasonic sensors for the advanced driver assistance systems in the electric GLC.

While pricing for the electric GLC wasn’t included in the press release, it’s reasonable to assume it will be positioned above the plug-in hybrid 350e 4Matic, which starts at $60,300 before destination fees. The exact price difference remains to be seen.

It appears that Benz may have incorporated enough additional technology to make the electric GLC attractive to everyday consumers. As we’ve noticed recently, most buyers require more than just a new powertrain to choose an EV. We’ll determine whether Mercedes has succeeded based on its sales performance a year from now.
