General Motors is recalling the 2023–2026 Z06 and the 2025–2026 ZR1 due to concerns over a fire hazard related to the fuel filler.
Dealers have been placed under a stop-sale order while they await a solution for the gasoline spillage issue.
The Stingray and E-Ray models are not part of this recall, which is specifically aimed at the Z06 and ZR1 configurations only.
The Corvette Z06 and ZR1 are among the most powerful and fastest Chevrolets ever created. However, they are currently halted as General Motors has issued a stop-sale and recall affecting the 2023-2026 Z06s and the 2025-2026 ZR1s. These affordable supercars present a potential fire danger related to the cooling fans’ closeness to the fuel filler.
As reported by GM, the problem arises if excess gasoline spills into the filter pocket during refueling. In the vehicles affected, the fan on the left side may possibly blow vapors or fuel droplets toward an ignition source, specifically the engine, thereby increasing the risk of fire. A notice filed under recall number N252514930 clearly states: “If fuel contacts an ignition source, there is increased risk of fire.”
Sales on Hold
Currently, this means dealers are under a stop-sale directive. Users on Corvette Forum have confirmed that dealers are informing them that their cars cannot be delivered until the resolution is implemented. GM has notified both dealers and customers that affected vehicles will eventually receive a new insert or shield designed to redirect any spilled fuel, although parts are not available at this moment.
Nevertheless, some vehicles included in the recall are already on the roads. As a precaution, owners are urged to adhere to strict refueling practices, which include ensuring the nozzle is fully inserted, turning off the engine while refueling, and refraining from “topping off” the tank after the pump shuts off. These are advisable practices for any vehicle, but especially critical in this situation.
GM’s response
The company released a statement to The Drive, saying: “This is a rare occurrence, and malfunctioning filling station pumps seem to be a contributing factor. The safety of our customers is our highest priority, and we’re working swiftly to resolve this issue.”
It is important to note that the recall and stop-sale does not involve the E-Rays or Stingrays. Although Z51-equipped Stingrays have fans near the filler, the configurations differ in the Z06 and ZR1 models.
