Whether it's due to its price, limited interior space, or the fact that Jeep doesn't promote it as a competitor to the mainstream midsize pickups such as the Ford Ranger, Chevy Colorado, and Toyota Tacoma, it appears that many view the Gladiator pickup as somewhat of an afterthought—even Jeep itself.

In this context, it seems fitting that Jeep subtly revealed its most noteworthy Gladiator update—a new Hemi-powered Gladiator “392” model—during an unrelated media preview alongside the announcement that the Wrangler 392 would return for at least another model year. Nonetheless, that brief mention is more attention than the Gladiator has received publicly in some time.

While there's no official timeline for the 392 yet, another Gladiator variant is on a countdown. Last year, Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa stated that a Gladiator 4xe would debut in 2025. You don't have to take our word for it; the Linkedin post is still available. So, amidst all this gasoline-related excitement, where is the Gladiator 4xe? Up until now, it seems to be absent.

After last week’s developments, we contacted Jeep to inquire about the situation. The response we got was brief and not particularly illuminating:

“Nothing to share on Gladiator 4xe at this moment.”

This certainly allows for interpretation, but as we’re well into 2025 with no news, it's fair to suggest that the situation doesn't look promising. Like the 392, the 4xe would provide Jeep an avenue to attract a new segment of buyers for its midsize pickup.

Even if you’re a supporter of the Comanche or Scrambler (I refer to this one, not that one, but sure, include that one too), the four-door, short-bed Wrangler adapted into a pickup may not be exactly what you’re looking for. Clearly, you’re not the only one, as Jeep sells one Gladiator for every three Wranglers, making its popularity comparable to that of the Wagoneer.

On a positive note, the Gladiator competes well against the only other premium option in the market: the GMC Canyon. In fact, Jeep is outperforming GMC in sales thus far in 2025—without the advantage of a V8 engine or a plug-in hybrid.
