The YangWang U9 Track Edition boldly challenges European exotics with its impressive specifications.
The vehicle is equipped with four electric motors, each generating 744 hp.
It features minor aerodynamic enhancements that set it apart from the standard 1,287 hp model.
The top speed is claimed to be 217 mph, although its true capability is expected to surpass this number.
Two decades ago, the Bugatti Veyron redefined supercars by introducing four-figure horsepower that had been unthinkable for a production vehicle. Now, 20 years later, the EV horsepower competition is fierce, led by the Rimac Nevera R with 2,107 hp and the Lotus Evija at 1,972 hp. However, BYD is aiming higher, preparing to launch a hypercar boasting an astonishing 2,977 hp.
This new model, known as the Track Edition of the YangWang U9, has been revealed in images from the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) and takes aim at powerful European electric vehicles.
A Road Car with Racing Credentials
The U9 Track Edition will harness the power of four electric motors, each producing 744 hp (or 555 kW), culminating in an extraordinary total output of 2,976 hp (or 2,200 kW), equivalent to 3,019 PS. This figure is remarkable for a road-legal car.
It is important to note that BYD has not confirmed whether all four motors will operate at maximum output at all times, or if power will be restricted to enhance drivability.
Additional Modifications
While the U9 Track Edition maintains many of the same exterior features as the standard version, it includes several small upgrades. The updates begin at the front, where designers have implemented a new splitter to improve downforce on the front wheels.
Additional changes include a lightweight carbon fiber roof and new 20-inch wheels fitted with 325-section tires both in the front and rear. The rear section remains largely unchanged from the standard model, featuring a swan neck-style rear wing and a large diffuser.
According to the MIIT documents, the U9 Track Edition's top speed is recorded at 217 mph (350 km/h), although it likely has the potential for more. The standard model has already been tested at 244 mph (391.91 km/h) with a ‘mere’ 1,287 hp.
