A pristine Nissan Skyline GT-R 400R is on its way to Monterey, showcasing potential worth a million dollars and boasting a history that spans three continents.

Only 44 units of the Nissan Skyline GT-R 400R were produced, despite initial plans for 100.

It is powered by an upgraded 2.77-liter twin-turbo six-cylinder engine that produces 400 hp.

Having only traveled 4,408 miles, it is in immaculate condition both inside and out.

Some vehicles achieve legendary status right away, while others take longer to capture the hearts of enthusiasts. The R33 Nissan Skyline GT-R often operates in the shadow of its predecessors, the R32 and R34, but it led to the creation of one of the rarest and most desirable Skylines ever made: the 400R. Designed to celebrate Nissan’s participation in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, only 44 units were manufactured, and this low-mileage example could fetch over $1 million.

In 1995, the R33 GT-R competed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans but was defeated by the McLaren F1 GTR; the following year, it was again surpassed, this time by the Porsche 911 GT1. Although Nissan did not achieve a victory, it chose to commemorate its Le Mans entry with the 400R, originally intended to be limited to 100 units.

      Powerful by design

As its name suggests, each car was enhanced to provide 400 hp, thanks to a larger 2.77-liter twin-turbocharged inline-six engine and increased boost. Despite the plan for 100 units, Nismo confirms that only 44 were actually produced.

RM Sotheby’s is overseeing the sale of this particular model during the Monterey Car Week in California. This 400R was first registered in Japan in September 1996, later moving to Hong Kong. It returned to Japan in 2021 and stayed there for about three years before being shipped to the United States.

      Carefully maintained

Nissan offered different Skyline GT-R 400Rs in various colors, and this model features a Dark Gray Pearl finish. It retains the original white decals on the sides and the original white wheels. With just 7,093 km (4,408 miles) driven since its release, the car’s exterior is in exceptional condition, with paint and detailing appearing nearly factory fresh.

The interior of the 400R is equally well-preserved. The cabin features its original Nismo-branded seats that provide excellent support and premium materials. The matching Nismo steering wheel shows minimal wear, emphasizing the car's limited use.

The auction house anticipates a selling price between $900,000 and $1.1 million. While that might seem steep for a nearly 30-year-old Nissan, the value of the 400R is expected to rise over time. You can view the listing here.
