Subaru has introduced a new electric crossover, the Uncharted, offering both FWD and AWD options, featuring Toyota DNA, and boasting an impressive range for its size.

The Uncharted EV is smaller and more rugged compared to the Solterra crossover, and it comes in three versions, including Subaru’s first front-wheel-drive model in years. The interior layout resembles that of the Toyota C-HR and incorporates a 14-inch touchscreen display.

It's uncommon for Subaru to unveil a completely new model line in the U.S., but the Uncharted marks such an introduction. Essentially, it is Subaru’s interpretation of the electric Toyota C-HR, designed with a more rugged aesthetic than the Solterra, all within a more compact format.

The Uncharted is built on Toyota’s e-TNGA platform and is equipped with a 74.7 kWh lithium-ion battery across all variants. For the American market, Subaru has confirmed three versions: the Premium FWD, Sport, and GT. The base model stands out as Subaru's first front-wheel-drive vehicle in several years, while the Sport and GT models come with the brand's signature Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system, featuring X-Mode.

The front-wheel-drive variant will offer 221 hp and, according to Subaru, should achieve over 300 miles (492 km) on a single charge. Notably, it will be sold in “limited quantities,” suggesting it may not remain available in the Uncharted lineup for long. Given the vehicle's rugged appeal, it is likely that most buyers will opt for the all-wheel-drive Sport and GT versions.

The AWD Sport and GT variants provide a boost with 338 horsepower and an estimated range of up to 290 miles (467 km). They can accelerate to 60 mph (96 km/h) in an impressive 5.0 seconds, outperforming the previous WRX STI and the current WRX TR, which both take 5.6 seconds to reach the same speed.

Subaru states that the Uncharted offers “impressive straight-line stability, handling, and grip on loose surfaces like gravel, dirt, or snow.” It features a more trail-ready appearance than the C-HR, with rugged front and rear bumpers, along with redesigned headlights and taillights. Buyers can choose between 18- or 20-inch wheels, and low-profile roof rails are also available.

All Uncharted models are equipped with a NACS charging port that supports peak DC charging speeds of 150 kW, and an 11 kW onboard charger is included for efficient home charging. Subaru highlights that the EV also features a battery preconditioning system, allowing the battery to charge from 10-80 percent in just 30 minutes.

Inside, the Uncharted's interior mostly mirrors that of the C-HR, featuring a sizable 14-inch infotainment screen, a digital gauge cluster, and a notably unattractive steering wheel. Standard features in the Sport model include a heated steering wheel, water-repellent seat materials, and a panoramic view monitor. The GT adds a panoramic moonroof, ventilated front seats, a smart rearview mirror, and a Harman Kardon sound system.

Subaru has yet to disclose pricing for the Uncharted, but it is reasonable to expect that the front-wheel-drive model will be priced in the low-to-mid $30,000 range.
