The Mazda EZ-60, based on Changan, serves as the crossover counterpart to the EZ-6 sedan, and it will also be introduced in Europe.

Mazda EZ-60 has garnered over 33,000 pre-orders in China prior to its official launch.

It features electric and range-extender powertrains and utilizes Changan’s shared architecture.

The electric model will also be available in Europe, rebranded as the Mazda CX-6e crossover.

Mazda’s collaboration with Changan is quickly showing promise in the electric market. Building on the success of the EZ-6 sedan, the new EZ-60 crossover has already created significant excitement, accumulating over 33,000 pre-orders in China before it hits the dealerships. This robust initial demand precedes its expected launch in Europe, where it will be marketed as the CX-6e.

The EZ-60 made its production debut at the Shanghai Auto Show on April 23, generating notable interest with 10,060 pre-orders in just the first 48 hours. As reported by Chinese outlet NetEase, this number had risen to 33,000 by July 11. The official launch in China is set for September.

      Electric Power With Recognizable Foundations

Measuring 4,850 mm (190.9 inches) in length, the EZ-60 is a midsize SUV designed to compete with other premium electric crossovers. It will be available in both range-extender and fully electric versions, sharing its EV platform with the Changan Deepal S07. Although Mazda has not yet disclosed full technical specifications, it suggests promising range figures, largely due to an emphasis on aerodynamics.

The design closely follows the 2024 Mazda Arata concept, featuring split LED headlights, a sleek closed-off grille, and a sharp, modern front fascia. The interior is packed with technology, including a 26.5-inch dashboard display, a 100-inch augmented reality heads-up display, digital rearview mirrors, and a 23-speaker audio system. Heated and ventilated seats enhance the well-equipped cabin.

Produced in China, Priced for Europe

Both the EZ-6 sedan and EZ-60 crossover are manufactured by Changan in China under its joint venture with Mazda. This production agreement will extend to their European iterations, to be sold as the Mazda 6e and CX-6e.

Mazda has not yet revealed pricing for the EZ-60, but the EZ-6 is priced between ¥159,800 and ¥181,800 (approximately $22,300 to $25,400) in China. In contrast, the European Mazda 6e starts at €44,900 (around $52,500) in Germany. If this trend continues, the CX-6e will likely come with a considerably higher price in Europe.

This price discrepancy is partly due to fierce competition in the Chinese market, which keeps domestic EV prices low, as well as the additional costs of EU import tariffs on vehicles made in China.

Mazda’s Next EV Will Be Manufactured in Japan

Alongside its Changan-based models, Mazda is also working on a fully in-house electric vehicle expected to launch in 2027. This future EV will be produced in Japan on a new platform and will utilize battery packs from Panasonic. It will share its production line with Mazda's current internal combustion engine and hybrid vehicles, facilitating manufacturing efficiency as the brand increases its electric vehicle offerings.
