Pagani Returns to Codalunga with a Speedster Inspired by the 1960s | Carscoops

This is not merely a hardtop convertible, but rather a remarkable piece of art that features numerous modifications compared to Pagani's "standard" supercar.

Pagani has just unveiled a new limited edition that is restricted to just 10 units.

Inspired by the racers of the 1960s, it merges high speed with an enduring design.

The company allows customers the freedom to customize their vehicles to their liking.

Once again, Pagani is producing an ultra-exclusive series of hypercars that only a select few can consider ordering. This new offering is an iteration of the Codalunga, which is already a long-tail version of the Huayra. Named the Codalunga Speedster, this breathtaking automobile is notably different from the standard model. While it features a removable hardtop, there are numerous other subtle alterations throughout and beneath its exterior. Pagani is producing only 10 of these, with each being a unique creation.

“The Huayra Codalunga Speedster is a tribute to those who envision their sports car as an embodiment of lightness and movement, shaped by essential lines that effortlessly transcend time,” states Horacio Pagani. The founder of the brand regards this vehicle as a homage to the racers of the 1950s and 1960s. These cars are often considered timeless, not just due to their speed and technological advancements, but also for their beauty.

This is the aesthetic blend Pagani aims for in the Codalunga Speedster. From a design standpoint, it stands out among the Huayra family. The windshield and windows are lower, and the headlights are integrated into the bodywork in an unprecedented manner.

The removable hardtop presents a silhouette reminiscent of a raindrop. At the back, the exhaust now has six outlets instead of four. Two are positioned below the rear diffuser, while the other four remain in their typical spot on the bumper.

The interior is also distinctive. The finishes are semi-matte, reflecting the essence of classic racers. Instead of overwhelming the space with carbon fiber and titanium, you'll find more mahogany along with hand-hammered and polished aluminum rivets. The upholstery is unique to this model, drawing inspiration from contemporary design trends as well as the iconic Pagani exhaust profile.

      Function Within Form

This isn't merely a stylish upgrade to the Huayra from 2011. The monocoque of the Codalunga Speedster is entirely new. It incorporates hidden NACA ducts, diffusers, and aerodynamic enhancements that optimize its drag coefficient.

Beneath the rear decklid lies the same AMG V12 engine tested in last year’s notable Huayra Codalunga. In the Speedster variant, it produces 864 hp (635 kW) and 811 lb-ft (1,100 Nm) of torque, which is transmitted solely to the rear wheels through a seven-speed gearbox. Buyers can opt for either an automated manual or a traditional three-pedal manual transmission.

Powerful Brembo brakes ensure effective stopping power, and substantial Pirelli Trofeo R tires deliver traction. Pagani claims that the Speedster can achieve an electronically capped top speed of 217 mph (350 km/h) when pushed to its utmost limits (likely on a racetrack or the Autobahn).

      Grand Complications

As if the car weren’t bespoke enough, Pagani has also taken an additional step. They provide a service known as Grandi Complicazioni (grand complications, a term borrowed from horology), which is essentially a division focused on making an already customized car even more unique. “These are pieces that require extraordinary ingenuity and absolute dedication: time, care, and expertise. Only a few artisans globally possess the skills to create them, often in very limited quantities or sometimes as a singular unique example,” explains the manufacturer.

Think of this as Pagani’s equivalent to Ferrari’s Tailor Made or Lamborghini’s Ad Personam programs. The distinction lies in how far Pagani is willing to go: “No limits to personalization: concepts, forms, materials, colors, and finishes. The sole boundary is the imagination of those who dream of a truly distinctive, one-of-a-kind vehicle,” they state. If that doesn't represent a blank canvas, we don’t know what does. This approach is entirely fitting for such a prestigious brand and automobile.
