Although neither company frequently discusses it publicly, the Honda Prologue and Acura ZDX are essentially midsize GM electric SUVs in stylish disguises. Beneath their badge-engineered surfaces, they are fundamentally the same vehicles as the Chevy Blazer EV and Cadillac Lyriq. Interestingly, despite being released later and distributed through a smaller dealer network, Honda’s models are somehow outperforming the vehicles they are based on in sales.
The Q2 statistics reveal the complete picture. Honda dealers have sold over 16,000 Prologues this year, while Chevy has recorded fewer than 13,000 Blazer EV sales. Notably, Chevrolet operates nearly 3,000 dealerships across the U.S., whereas Honda has fewer than 1,100. This means, on average, each Chevy dealership has sold fewer than 4.5 Blazer EVs in 2025, while each Honda dealership averages more than 15 Prologues.
On the premium side, Acura has achieved 10,335 ZDX sales this year, compared to Cadillac’s 9,317 Lyriqs. Although the ZDX ranked only as the third-best-selling vehicle in Acura's showrooms through Q2, it outsold the (soon-to-be-discontinued) TLX sedan by more than three times and doubled the sales of the Integra. We didn't calculate the ratio of Acura to Cadillac dealerships, but the outcome is likely predictable.
In defense of GM, the company is selling more Ultium-based models than the numbers above imply. Along with the Blazer EV and Lyriq, they have also sold the Cadillac Escalade iQ (3,766), Optiq (4,940), and Vistiq (1,745), as well as the Chevy Equinox EV (27,749). This doesn’t even consider their truck offerings (GMC Hummer EV, Chevy Silverado EV, and GMC Sierra EV). The point is, in terms of total Ultium EV sales, GM is moving significantly more vehicles than Honda, even if Honda is performing better in overlapping segments.
Additionally, there is positive news for GM in this situation. While the Blazer EV may be trailing behind the Prologue, it is still ahead of its sales pace for 2024. In fact, across GM’s entire EV lineup, only the Lyriq's sales are down compared to last year. Overall, the Cadillac brand has sold 50% more EVs so far in 2025.
