      A California driver remarkably emerged unscathed after a guardrail pierced straight through his electric vehicle.

      The Tesla driver escaped a severe crash with only minor injuries.

      His Model Y crossed the center median and became impaled on the guardrail.

      Images reveal a damaged pre-facelift Model Y with the guardrail protruding from both ends.

      Modern automobiles undergo a variety of crash tests before they are permitted on roads in the US, and they offer considerably better protection than older vehicles. However, a higher power must have ensured the safety of the Model Y driver in California, who walked away from an accident that, under ordinary circumstances, should have been fatal.

      The side of the vehicle appears completely intact, almost suggesting that it slid against the guardrail, neatly pushing it in. However, it's clear that the guardrail wasn't crushed; it is actually running straight through the vehicle—from the front, through the center, and out the back.

      A Unique Type of Collision

      As per the California Highway Patrol in Los Banos, the incident occurred on I-5 when the driver, “for unknown reasons,” allowed his EV to stray off the road and collide with the guardrail. The impact forced the rail through the front of the Tesla and into the cabin, before exiting the rear. Thankfully, no one was seated in the center position of the back seat.

      The driver benefited from the two-seat configuration in the front, but the crumpled appearance of the rail that passed through the back highlights the substantial energy involved in the crash and just how close they came to being seriously injured or worse.

      “Fortunately for the driver, he only suffered minor injuries and was able to walk away,” the Los Banos police noted in a Facebook statement. “Operating a vehicle demands full attention to the road. Avoid distractions and concentrate on driving.”

      While the reason for the driver's departure from the road remains unclear, with the advanced Tesla ADAS technology available to him, this incident seemingly should not have occurred. He was fortunate this time, but it feels like he may have exhausted all his nine lives in this particular event.
