This is one of merely 27 Ferrari F40s modified from street to race specifications.
It remains track-ready, boasting 648 hp and a rich competitive history.
It comes with numerous spare parts, including body panels and engine components.
Even among top-tier supercars, a Ferrari with legitimate racing credentials draws attention for all the right reasons. While many F40s enjoy sheltered lives in climate-controlled garages, this particular model has a backstory that's much more dynamic and intriguing.
Ferrari established its racing reputation through years of intense competition. Nowadays, it is equally recognized for street supercars and a wide array of branded merchandise. However, this F40, which is presently up for auction, connects both realms. It’s a street model with an impressive racing history.
In the beginning, this 1989 F40 came off the assembly line as a “normal” road-going vehicle. According to Broad Arrow Auctions, this is one of only 27 road-going F40s adapted for racing purposes.
From Street Icon to Track Weapon
In the late 1990s, the then-owner had the vehicle modified for racing, which included the fixed headlights you see now and considerable engine enhancements. The F40 originally produced 471 horsepower and 426 lb-ft of torque.
After modifications, this one now has 648 horsepower (483 kW) and 562 lb-ft (763 Nm) of torque. This added power was beneficial when it raced against competitors like the Lister Storm and Chrysler Viper GTS-R in 2000. Indeed, this car competed well over a decade after its initial production.
Still Earning Its Keep
Today, it has long been a frequent participant at track days, historic motorsport events, and other car exhibitions. Its most recent track day took place at Imola, and it remains ready for more. Forget about supercars that languish in garages with minimal mileage; this is a Ferrari that the next owner can drive rigorously without concern for significant depreciation in value.
As if that weren't enough, this F40 is sold with an extensive collection of spare parts. And we're not just talking about small items like extra brake pads and light bulbs.
The new owner will receive spare body panels – including a front clamshell – along with cylinder heads, valve covers, exhaust manifolds, intercoolers, and more. The buyer might acquire one of the coolest Ferraris ever, along with several spare parts that could be repurposed into art and potentially sold for additional profit.
So, if your budget can accommodate it, the complete listing is available here. Just don’t expect it to be priced like couch change.
