Reintroducing a legendary name could be another profitable strategy for Porsche.

Porsche has registered the trademarks 'Flachbau' and 'Flachbau RS' with European authorities.

A new iteration of the 911 featuring a Slantnose and pop-up headlights might prove to be a huge hit.

The company only produced 948 original Slantnose models, which were not highly sought after at the time.

In an industry that relies on continual innovation, some things remain irresistibly appealing. Few vehicles illustrate this better than the Porsche 911. Porsche manages to enhance and innovate its flagship model while preserving the genuine, analog allure that established its iconic status.

Limited-edition models like the 911 Dakar and 911 S/T have only increased demand, with a new GT2 RS also anticipated. However, there may be another surprise on the horizon.

Porsche has recently sought to trademark ‘Porsche Flachbau’ and ‘Flachbau RS’ with the European Intellectual Property Office. For those unfamiliar, the 911 Flachbau, often called the 'Slantnose,' was introduced during the 930 911 era.

The Slantnose took its design cues from the Porsche 935 of that time. In total, only 948 units of the 911 Slantnose were produced, with just 160 believed to have arrived in the United States.

To achieve the car's streamlined front appearance, Porsche replaced the 911's distinctive round headlights with pop-up lights. If they decide to produce a new Flachbau with a contemporary take on pop-up headlights, it would likely create a significant buzz online and excite 911 enthusiasts and collectors alike.

As noted by Autoblog, which discovered the trademark filings, the presence of two distinct applications may indicate plans for two Flachbau variants. If the RS version comes to fruition, it would probably serve as the flagship, potentially incorporating motorsport-focused features from the GT3 RS and the upcoming GT2 RS.

Porsche typically does not produce a large number of these specialized models. Only 2,500 units of the 911 Dakar were manufactured globally, and just 1,963 examples of the 911 S/T were made. If the Slantnose makes a comeback, it is reasonable to anticipate a similarly restricted production run, keeping demand elevated and resale values soaring.
