Forget Formula 1, the Dakar Rally, and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Something far more thrilling is heading to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Friday, May 23. Six Wienermobiles will compete against one another in the event dubbed the Wienie 500.

Yes, you read that right. It's not a joke. Oscar Mayer is bringing six Wienermobiles to the track for the first time, and it's not just any track; it's the same venue that will host the sold-out Indy 500 on Sunday, May 25. According to Oscar Mayer, the champion will be determined after only two laps around the 2.5-mile oval, with the same individuals who drive the Wienermobile across the country participating in the race.

It seems Oscar Mayer will not be making any mechanical tweaks to the six hot dog-shaped vehicles before they take to the track, so don't anticipate any record-breaking speeds or sounds reminiscent of Formula 1 exhausts. We found out that the power comes from a Chevrolet-sourced V8 engine, and the 27-foot-long, 11-foot-tall body conceals a frame akin to what you would find under something like a UPS truck.

Each Wienermobile will symbolize a different regional hot dog. The lineup includes the Chi Dog representing the Midwest (#1), the New York Dog for the East Coast (#2), the Slaw Dog for the Southeast (#3), the Sonoran Dog for the Southwest (#4), the Seattle Dog for the Northwest (#5), and, last but definitely not least, the Chili Dog racing for the South (#6). Each driver will don a specially designed Hotdogger suit that we're eager to see.

Which dog will emerge victorious? With no practice or qualifying lap times available, it's difficult to predict, but regardless of the outcome, the winner will supposedly enjoy the Winner’s Ketchup. Just kidding.

The race will be broadcast live on the FOX Sports app on Friday, May 23, starting at 2:00 p.m. ET, which is 11:00 a.m. in California. If you don’t have the app, you can catch all the live-streamed action by following INDYCARonFOX on social media.
