The potentially unique creation may have been commissioned by an affluent 8C owner.

Zagato's exclusive 8C-based design is set to be unveiled at this weekend's Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este.

Despite rumors circulating, no official previews or photos of the Alfa have been shared prior to the event.

It has been 18 long years since the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione was first presented to the public, and many experts believe it remains one of the most stunning cars ever designed. Zagato is arguably the only company capable of enhancing the 8C’s beauty, and it is preparing to showcase a unique 8C-based model at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este in Italy this weekend.

The Alfa Romeo 8C Doppiacoda Zagato has recently surfaced on the event's entry list hosted by the BMW Group, but Zagato has yet to confirm its existence. The design firm has also not released any teaser images or previews of the vehicle. While many speculated that a tagged post on Zagato’s Instagram contained a leaked image, it is apparent that it is an AI-generated design. Therefore, we are skeptical about any actual connection to Zagato, but we will have to wait and see.

In Italian, “Doppiacoda” translates to double-tail or twin tail, leading to speculation that this car may draw inspiration from Zagato’s Alpine A110-based AGTZ Twin Tail. That model featured a detachable long tail section at the rear, so it wouldn't be surprising if Zagato took similar creative liberties this time.

What adds to the intrigue is that the 8C Doppiacoda Zagato has been entered into the Concept Cars & Prototypes category at Villa d’Este. This indicates it is a unique, custom design rather than a limited-edition production model like the AGTZ Twin Tail. It remains to be seen whether the owner of a standard 8C commissioned this special rendition or if Zagato chose to develop the project independently and plans to sell it afterward.

We will have all the details when the event on Lake Como kicks off later this week. Stay tuned.
