The 2026 RZ enhances performance and range but omits steer-by-wire technology for U.S. versions.

All trims now feature a NACS plug for compatibility with Tesla Superchargers.

The top-tier RZ550e boasts 402 horsepower and accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.1 seconds.

A few months prior, Lexus revealed the 2026 RZ in its European specifications, showcasing steer-by-wire technology and simulated gears. Now, this updated model is set to launch in North America, incorporating a host of improvements such as a new battery, increased power, and a longer driving range.

There will be three versions of the 2026 RZ available in the U.S. Starting with the base model, the RZ 350e features a 74.69 kWh battery and a front-mounted electric motor generating 221 horsepower, which is an increase of 20 horsepower compared to the previous RZ 300e. Lexus states this model can accelerate to 60 mph (96 km/h) in 7.2 seconds and offers an approximate range of 300 miles (482 km) on a single charge.

Next is the RZ 450e AWD, which maintains the same 74.69 kWh battery but adds a second electric motor at the rear wheels, raising the total output to 308 horsepower. This allows it to reach 0-60 mph in 4.9 seconds, with a driving range of 260 miles (418 km).

Lastly, the flagship RZ 550e F Sport AWD features a dual-motor configuration. It utilizes a slightly larger 76.96 kWh battery, increases horsepower to 402, and reduces the 0-60 time to a quicker 4.1 seconds. However, with an estimated range of 225 miles (362 km), it does not set a high standard for range in the electric vehicle market.

All 2026 RZ models destined for North America will be equipped with an NACS plug, and Lexus asserts that the battery can charge from 10% to 80% in under 30 minutes. Furthermore, each model now includes an 11 kW on-board AC charger, a significant enhancement from the prior 7 kW unit.

Interestingly, it seems that the new RZ models offered in North America will not feature the same steer-by-wire system as the international versions, including those in Europe. Lexus has not mentioned this system in its local press release, and images of the North American version reveal a conventional steering wheel, rather than the yoke seen with steer-by-wire vehicles.

Virtual Shifts and an Enhanced Interior

It is known that the RZ 550e F Sport AWD is the sole variant to provide Toyota’s M Mode virtual gear shift, which employs paddle shifters and is intended to deliver “a sportier, more responsive driving experience.” Whether this effectively enhances the driving experience remains to be seen, but it certainly seems aimed at making the experience of driving an electric vehicle more engaging.

Inside, the 2026 RZ features several upgrades. A panoramic glass roof is now offered, capable of transitioning from clear to opaque at the touch of a button. The RZ 550e also showcases attractive black Ultrasuede trim accented with blue stitching.

Lexus has yet to announce the official pricing for the refreshed model, but sales are expected to commence later this year. Based on the pricing of the 2025 model year, the base models are anticipated to start around $45,000, with the new flagship RZ 550e likely exceeding $60,000.
