Fiat's Upcoming Highlight Is This Compact Revival of a Classic | Carscoops
Fiat has introduced the Grande Panda 4×4 concept, signaling the potential for an AWD production model.
This rugged vehicle features all-terrain tires, additional LEDs, a roof rack, and a Bordeaux color scheme.
It includes an electrified rear axle, but it's not yet specified if it will be a mild-hybrid or an electric vehicle.
The small, durable crossover segment is set to grow more fascinating. Fiat is preparing to add a new variant to the Grande Panda line, paying homage to the vintage Panda 4×4. The automaker showcased a concept version of this off-road oriented urban crossover, featuring an electrified rear axle that provides AWD capability.

This concept, called the Fiat Grande Panda 4×4 Manifesto, was revealed during the Grande Panda Hybrid media drive in Italy. Fiat describes the vehicle as “the fullest expression of an idea that continues to evolve,” labeling it “the foundation of an exciting journey.” This aligns with previous comments from Fiat CEO Olivier Francois, who confirmed that a 4×4 version of the Grande Panda is in development.
Retro Aesthetics and Robust Features
The Manifesto exhibits several enhancements compared to the higher-end versions of the standard Grande Panda. Key modifications include extra plastic cladding around the body, a roof rack carrying a spare tire, and pixel-style LEDs incorporated into both the grille and roof. While Fiat has indicated that additional accessories for the production model may be on the way, these features already give the concept a distinctly rugged appearance.
Fiat chose a distinctive Bordeaux paint finish as a subtle homage to the original Panda 4×4, first introduced in 1983. The exterior also boasts beige highlights and retro-themed 16-inch steel wheels, which are similar to those found on the base and RED versions of the Grande Panda, although with different finishes. For this concept, the wheels are fitted with robust all-terrain tires, appropriate for an off-road-focused vehicle.
Electrified Powertrain for AWD Functionality
Beneath its sturdy design, the standout element of the Manifesto is its “electrified innovative rear axle,” which enables AWD capabilities. This arrangement is similar to the 28 hp (21 kW / 29 PS) rear electric motor used in the mild-hybrid Jeep Avenger 4xe and Alfa Romeo Junior Ibrida Q4, suggesting Fiat is utilizing a well-known powertrain layout.

Fiat has not confirmed if the concept’s electrified rear axle is paired with a mild-hybrid 1.2-liter engine or whether the front axle is also electrically propelled. However, it is possible that the AWD configuration could work with both powertrain options.
While no official launch date has been set, a production version of the Grande Panda 4×4 may be available in European dealerships around 2026.
